What I Learnt Last Week 13: Fat and Depression, The Amazon Molly, WPA2 security, Tumor elimination and The Electronic Skin
<div class="text-justify"> Another week again, am striving to obtain balance. I have not been able to get my balance since I missed a few days due to my last promotion of the steem blockchain last week. Am really working on that.

This week happens to be a week of fewer activities for me. So most of my time was spent indoors, on my laptop trying to source for information and of course, write something down.

So, let's see what I have for us this week.

## Monday: Fat and depression

<center>![Depression.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmR9ifRSRaJZ1uWyDrHUeBgtvXbTY85RLPBM1kVxPSzfmk/Depression.jpg)</center><center> Are you depressed?</center>

I want to believe we all know depression is a mental condition which may be the reason someone's in a bad mood. People suffering from depression are mostly sad, moody, anxious, and they sometimes have a feeling of emptiness. This made me think and research about the possible causes, just then did I find out our foods can also be a reason we are depressed.

This my topic is based on fats majorly because [1] we don't really think our diets can cause depression and [2] fats happen to be a component of most meals we eat. Scientists of the University of Tasmania were able to link depression to our poor dietary habits and were also able to find out foods that can improve or mental health.

 In a survey of about 2,600 children of which 1,600 are of age 14 and the rest of age 17, after asking about their diets, they were able to classify them into either "healthy" or "western" nutrition. The healthy which includes fibre, vegetables, fishes, and fruits while the western includes red meat, processed foods, and other food options we know are unhealthy. <hr/>

This study establishes the link between our diet and mental health, making known that unhealthy foods like fat can have an effect on our mental health and can also cause inflammation. This is in addition to the numerous studies that had shown that fat and obese had a higher risk of depression.

## Tuesday: The Amazon Molly Fish defies sexual reproduction

<center>![Amazon molly.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmXS3EpVcPtP76Eig51Ub3hsK7VabefMVBXH3cg3XirRNi/Amazon%20molly.jpg)</center><center> The fish with a very rare genetic material</center>

What did we know? Plants reproduce sexually and asexually while animals reproduce sexually. Well, not anymore, this is no longer true as the Amazon molly has defied that. The fish continues to thrive despite being an all-female species and it's surprising how it does that.

 The method of reproduction for this fish happens to be [[1]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parthenogenesis#Gynogenesis) gynogenesis, and this is done by mating with the male counterpart, you are wondering how then it is asexual?? The genetic material from the male does not fuse with the diploid egg of the female and this is the reason males are not reproduced but clones of the mothers.

To improve our understanding of the fish, an "international team of scientists" sequenced the genome of the original fishes that gave rise to the Amazon molly and the Amazon molly itself. They were able to find out that the molly has a genetic makeup that is unique and very rare which is what increases their "survival benefits."

## Wednesday: Your Wi-Fi can be hacked

<center>![WI-Fi.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmSwo8cVueGbUooT5rbXe1K9KbiXMwpvYS1AFMtgTbNnme/WI-Fi.jpg)</center><center> WPA2 security is not as strong as you think </center>

Recently, a loophole has been found in the security of Wi-Fi networks and this means your Wi-Fi network can be hacked as a result of the loophole found in WPA2 protocol called KRACK.

This loophole or vulnerability called KRACK can give hackers access to your passwords, messages, they can track your use of the internet and can even replace your messages and data.

The Key Reinstallation Attack, also known as KRACK allows hackers bypass the protection and this means all the devices you might have connected to the Wi_Fi network could be in danger. ...and in a case where you don't only have your phones and tablets connected but also your smart TV, smart refrigerator and any other smart thing you have, lol, they'd all be in danger of being corrupted or anything the hacker wishes to do to them.

This secret has been revealed for about six months now, still a solution hasn't been found but of course, there are ways you can protect yourself from being a victim. I should give at least 2 and a link you can get more from..

So, here is the list:
[1] Make sure all the sites you visit are SSL encrypted. SSL encrypted sites start with https://

[2] Be sure to use a VPN on your devices and a bonus one

[3] Avoid using public Wi-Fi. You can check more [here](https://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2409751,00.asp)

## Thursday: Vaccine eliminates tumor in mice

<center>![image.img_.620.high_.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmXs2JaUHXVChc9Cxyd4iwLGKyfxUPNasRD1ATeZrtAeAV/image.img_.620.high_.jpg)</center><center> Scientists during this research </center>

We are all aware of how fervently the scientists are working on cancer and how much results we are getting. This should be a reason for us to be happy that an incurable disease is in its last days and soon enough, some people will be able to say "I had cancer before but not anymore." Although some people have been cured of tumor only because they found out early enough.

This one happens to be spectacular as it involves injecting a small amount of "two immune-stimulating agents" directly into the tumors. This was tried on a mice and it was followed by the elimination of all the traces of cancer in the animal.

It is believed that this therapy is unlikely to have an adverse effect. Aside from that, the researchers believe the addition of a very small quantity of the agents can eventually be used as a rapid cancer therapy and it's not even expensive to set up so, it'll fit in perfectly.

One more thing, this method is not specific like it'll kill only a specific tumor? No, it's like a total sanitation. It wipes all tumors throughout the body. The only thing holding it back is the clinical trial of one of the agents. One has been treated and approved so let's wait till launches and see how far it can go.

 ## Friday: The electronic skin

<center>![electronic_skin.jpg](https://steemitimages.com/DQmVsxWYup7ooa6SSr6pT3UjjkVbTjcvs1D2g3Y9Vvc8pZs/electronic_skin.jpg)</center><center> An image of the electronic skin </center>

 It's funny how I eventually wrote on the electronic skin. I saw it a long time ago but didn't take out time to read time to read about it until last Friday.

This is an initiative of the CU Boulders and this electronic skin has the ability to heal and recycle itself. Ok, a quick description; the electronic skin is a thin material, translucent and can even imitate the normal human skin in terms of mechanical properties and functions.

It was fashioned in a way that its sensor can measure temperature, pressure, humidity, and airflow.

<hr/>
<table><tbody><tr><td><blockquote><center> https://steemitimages.com/DQmZZ7S5VC5m1JE9PMAycFjW3xgzHAXpPebjWNmEG7NKoEo/CWWJuV.png <br>The technology has several distinctive properties, including a novel type of covalently bonded dynamic network polymer, known as polyimine that has been laced with silver nanoparticles to provide better mechanical strength, chemical stability and electrical conductivity.<br> https://steemitimages.com/DQmYej7nbpczxitEvFoWx2tDqq8N8AjwPj5R5VhLMs7B2qJ/RMuHYHa.png <br>Jianliang Xiao<br>Asst. Prof. CU Boulder </center></blockquote></td><td><blockquote><br><br><br><br><br></blockquote></td></tr></tbody></table>
<hr/>

What is responsible for the uniqueness of the electronic skin remains the chemical bonding of the polyimine because it is what the skin recycle and heal by itself at room temperature. Well, if you've watched the movie Terminator, then you probably understand how this skin works. I think it was in part 2 or so, the antagonist's wounds were always healed automatically after a few seconds and that what am talking about. Although it might not be exactly the same in this case, they are definitely similar. To recycle the skin, you just need to soak the skin in a recycling solution to enable its polymers degrade to oligomers and monomers "that are soluble in ethanol."
