THE SCHOOL; AS A FACTOR RESIDENT IN THE SOCIAL ORDER

The school system provides opportunities for formal education. As one would expect, it is in the school system therefore that most of the factors that influence learning are found. These fact range from physical factor to human factors.

---

**Physical Condition**

---

The quantity and quality of educational resources and facilities in the school influence learning. Some school buildings are poorly constructed with very poor or inadequate facilities. Compare schools in rural areas with similar schools in urban areas, federal school and state schools or private schools, in terms of infrastructure, facilities and staffing. Generally where learning facilities are available and staffing is adequate, students learn better.

---

**Instructional factor**

These include material to be learned, the curriculum design and strategies, the teaching strategies and the measurements and evaluation of learning.

In school where learning materials and facilities are not available or sufficient learning will be very different and ineffective. Learning materials are not appropriate or suitable for the learners will not elicit desirable learning.

Learning is affected by the nature of educational policy adopted by the ruling government. Unstable government often affects learning adversely.
Control of formal education by conservative elements or adult generation who received their education in the past, or untrained inert and often cowardly educational leaders, has adverse effects learning.
