This is something I've always suspected, especially around playoff times. 

Now I don't think that every game and score is fixed, and I do mostly still think that the best team wins in the end.

What I have always suspected is that play-offs are purposely prolonged. This was a discussion earlier tonight as I was out watching the Bruins play the Leafs. I wasn't surprised to the see the Leaf's win, simply because there has got to be a lot of lost revenue if the series only goes to 5 games instead of the possible 6 or 7 games.

Now I don't even know how tickets work at these stadiums, maybe your refunded the ticket price in there's no game and maybe you pay anyways, but think of all the money for these games. There are the concessions and merchandise at the stadiums, this has good to be massive. 

There's the TV revenue from the advertisements and viewership that would be lost if there was just no game being played by your favorite teams.

Next is all the bars and establishments that see and influx of people for games like this. The place I was at was overflowing with hockey fans, I'm sure it would have been much more empty. 

Plus gambling, I'm sure there's a lot of gambling revenue created on each and every game.

I mean these sports are a business right? People own these teams and stadiums and everyone is trying to make money off these, how could they not want these things to go all the way to game 7 or at least game 6's.
