The Technology of Confusion

“Social Media Sites Creates illusion of connectivity .” - Malay Shah

Do you Love Facebook?

The main incentive to join Facebook was to connect with friends and family, right? You would scroll your news feed, see photos of your friends and then click the "Like" button. But then something happened! You received multiple friend request from "friends of friends", then before you knew it, you had 1000 friends. Is it normal to be connected with so many people, especially when you've never met those people face-to-face?

Despite these things, we still use Facebook without questioning...

Certain Medical studies suggest that social media sites stimulate a chemical within our brain called dopamine. Dopamine is produced when we feel pleasure or pain. Facebook has psychologically manipulated it's platform to make our brains produce the pleasure chemical of dopamine when we use Facebook. How So? Well, when our photos get more likes, we assume that we are loved by our friends, and it makes us feel happy.

Instagram, the woman's trap?

Studies have found that 68% of Instagram users are women, which is quite alarming. This suggests that Instagram is attractive towards women, but why? Instagram is a picture based social media, where the main niche happens to be the fashion industry. We all know how much women love fashion, clothes, and so forth. Furthermore, modelling is very big on Instagram, and it so happens that women feel that the models they see on Instagram are setting the trends of beauty.

What women fail to realize is that 70% of the models on Instagram are photo shopped!

Conclusion...

There is a correlation between the amount of smartphone usage and social media conditioning. It really boils down to how you use social media and what you use it for...
