En parlant de travail, voici celui effectué par les ouvriers du Val-Saint-Lambert. Ils enlèvent le creuset en terre cuite, rempli de verre en fusion pour le remplacer. 
Ils effectuent les manipulations très proches du four qui reste allumé. Un travail pénible et dangereux.
Les températures sont extrêmement élevées et les moyens de protection sont quasi inexistant. Ce tableau est représentatif des conditions de travail déplorables de l'époque.
