!! BRIEF OF THE STORY!!

Khaled Hosseini has woven a tale for an ages in “A Thousand Splendid Suns”. With a title taken from the next-to-last stanza of the poem titled “Kabul”, the story is centered on two Afghan women with his masterful utilization of a double narrative. Hosseini touches up on delicate subjects such as the war between communists and Taliban and the state of a patriarchic war-torn society. The first portion of his story is based on Mariam, an illegitimate child born out of wedlock, torn apart physically and mentally by the backward minded contemporary Afghan society of the early 20th century. The second protagonist of the story is Laila, who is trapped in a spiral of deceit in her conquest of endearment. The story ends in the present tense, illustrating the then-current state of Laila, her family and the state of society.
