thank you, this worked for me. 
The only issue I had was unrelated to steem and its dependencies. I solved that problem by [pinning the problem package](https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PinningHowto).

Glad I could get thru this part because next on my agenda is a rebuild of the steemit server and client!! :)
