CAN A HEN TALK?- Hive Creative Contest
When I saw the [powerhousecreatives contest](https://hive.blog/hive-114105/@zord189/hive-creative-contest-or-that-yolo-thing-contest-details) by @zord189 I was confused about what to write on. Because I have many exciting and crazy memories but after checking through my memory box, this particular memory keeps popping up.

If I ask you if a hen do talks and can speak the human language apart from the usual noise and sounds they create. I am sure the answer will be no but I had this weird experience at the age of 8 when a Hen was a force to speak. And this is not a story you find in a children's comic/fun book, this is my personal experience

I grew up in a family of seven. Yeah, I know we are quite large in number. When I was seven my immediate elder brother graduated from primary school and starts his secondary school education immediately. We were each other playmates and best friends but when he got into secondary school he outgrew some of our plays like chasing and playing with the local fowls which we do rear.

On one faithful day, one of my elder sisters was busy outside doing the laundering and little eight years old me took it as a duty to chase a Hen of ours who I named **Native.**
Apart from being a playful kid, the main reason I chase the Hen that day was that she is laying eggs and I believe the more she exercises her body by running, the quicker she is going to lay more eggs.

It was a heated race between me and the hen(native). My sister asked me to leave the poor hen alone but I still kept on. Native had to hide behind a arrange set of blocks in the compound.

I still did not quit as I was still standing to wait for her to come out. After some minutes she came out and the instant she saw me she scream the word see-am and starts to run (see-am is a pidgin English which means Look at him/her or He/she is here)

It became a case of *bushmeat chasing the hunter* as I took to my heels and ran indoors. My sister was able to the words **Native** made too, she laughed at me as I ran away.

When my Mum came back from the market, I told her what happened and her words were "Native probably produce a normal fowl sound that's similar to the words see-am, not that she can speak, Hens don't speak.

To me, I can't really agree with my mum. But my suspicion now is that Native could have grabbed some human language from us as the fowls we were rearing were like a pet to us.
And maybe my mum was right, Native was tensed and exhausted so she was forced to produce a sound similar to a human spoken language to express her agony.
Because since that experience of mine I have never seen or heard of a talking hen.

My experience made me stop chasing our fowls(both the hens and cocks) as I realize they have feelings too and may feel threatened if I continue with chasing them around.
