Rose Apple : Another unusual fruit from Mauritius!
Also known by the name of **Jamalac** in French based creole islands, **Chompoo** in Thailand, **Makopa** in the Philippines or simply **Rose Apple** in English, this fruit is not so well known in many parts of the world!

I am lucky to find these from time to time here in Mauritius!

There are quite some varieties of **Rose Apples**, some sweeter than the other, some bigger and of different colors varying from light green to pink and red to black!

Here in Mauritius the most common one is of red color and of medium size!

These days I am getting some of these lovely fruits from my sister...so eventually I am using them in my bistro for the joy of my guests!
I simply cut them and add to the salad that is served with all grills on the menu!

Based on its appearance, one can easily mistake them for small pears...although the skin is usually quite waxy compared to pears! You just have to scrap it out and discard!

When you cut a rose apple in half, its core is more or less hollow with a bit of a cottony fluff!
