*I am forever intrigued by the communication that takes place below the soil and underbrush, among the roots of trees and plants and carried through the mycelium of mushrooms and fungi. If only AI could translate that.*

the wind
blows down the lane
the wind is not particular
she goes where she goes
blows how she blows
it is not always
a dark and tragic story
sometimes it is dark and happy
some people like the dark
find funny, the irony, found there
sometimes its light and tragic
lemmings make awful tight-rope walkers
a misstep or a moment's carelessness
brings a varmint to an abrupt end
the people around here
we don’t see too often
know that
they prefer the shadows
there is balance there
not sure how it will go
find out at reception
or consult local folklore
the recognizable versions
sling your learning book
over your shoulder
set out to find the truth
of everything
but be wary of magical tales
told by natural story-tellers
the best are always fabulist
natural-born liars, if you ask me
with their boisterous charm
and calculated sudden reserve
ne’er-do-wells everyone of ‘em
seek out the farmer instead
with his sun tattoos
he knows the seasons
is familiar with the Mother’s fickle nature
he’ll tell you to stay on your toes
but sow your seeds deep
or sense out the hermit-monk
he likes the dark too
the dark and quiet
and truncated truths
a little too literal
but just enough to confuse
sprinkle the stars
blacken the sky
stay up past the solstice
peak at you gifts before xmas
why did you ever let him whisper your name
you should have pretended not to hear
made a mess of it now
just have the fairies topple the ruin
and begin again
ready, here we go
