Going Easy Mode In Final Fantasy 7 Remake
In between my last rant about the combat in the Final Fantasy 7 Remake and this post being written I've been on the verge of completely quitting the game. I just can't get into this combat system at all and I end up infuriated during combat. It's really sitting in this uncanny valley between turn-based and action-based combat that's not good.

# Going easy mode

One thing that's become more and more standard for games these days is that you're able to change difficulty on the fly. I started the game in normal mode, which I usually do with games, and didn't even consider easy as an option. Since I was on the verge of quitting due to the combat I decided to turn down the difficulty to easy to see if that could make me carry on with the game.

It was definitely a good choice. Easy mode describes itself as being for those who just want to experience the story and not focus much on combat at all. You still have to do all the combat but it's was easier and enemies mostly fall over. My main gripe with the combat was that boss fights were long and drawn out. The boss fights I've done on easy mode have also been quite long and drawn out so I don't want to even imagine how they would have been on normal mode.

I've been playing roughly 3-4 hours on easy mode now and I just realized at the end of my last sessions that I hadn't made any changes or upgrades to my character. I hadn't equipped any new gear or leveled up any of the weapons because I simply haven't needed to. That's a little bit of a shame in hindsight but then again I've been to absorbed in the story to even think about it.

# Saving sector 7

I'm roughly 16 hours into the game at this point and the story is really starting to build. It seems I'm mostly past the character-development and world-building phase of the game and we're now getting to the action. They do spend a lot of time with character-development in this game and from what I've read that's mostly what differs between the original and the remake, and why they've split the game into three longer games. They want to expand on the world and characters.

I finished up the Wall Market, Sewers and the Train Graveyard section of the game yesterday. Now, we're rushing to save Sector 7 which is about to be entirely destroyed and decimated by Shinra. It feels like this is leading up to a climax but it's hard to tell. From what I know the game is supposed to go on for roughly 10 hours more. I guess I'll just have to find out.
