This is gonna be a short article approaching a subject I wanted to talk about a while ago, but forgot - luck. We're all hoping that one day we're gonna get lucky doing something and we'll get everything we ever wanted with or without a lot of work.

One of the best examples for people who are publishing their articles on this website would be getting lucky with one of your posts and getting upvoted or resteemed by a whale or a lot of really important people from the community. That would mean you'll get thousands of followers and maybe a lot of money in the future, something every Steemit user wishes.

However, if you think about it, how many people have the chance to get that? Why that may not happen to a lot of them? Why so many people just fade away into the big crowd of users posting all kind of things, never getting noticed by anyone and never getting the rewards they deserve? How can they avoid that?

The answer is pretty simple - they need to make their own luck. While luck exists and while it happens from time to time to get something amazing for no reason, most of the time you need to be the one creating the possibility for that to happen.

For example, let's say we have two guys who want to get noticed by a whale and make a lot of money on this website. They joined Steemit at the same time and since then they've been posting and interacting with the community in their own way.

The first guy spends hours on this website posting at least once or twice a day, commenting on other posts and upvoting those he thinks are amazing, doing his best to build relationships and to provide as much value as he can through his content.

The second guy spends a few minutes every single day publishing all kind of funny images he finds online, adding some text to his "articles", barely commenting on other people's work, never responding to comments, never trying to build relationships and not caring about bringing value to the consumers of his content.

I'm sure it's pretty easy to guess who has more chances of getting noticed by a whale and getting a lot of rewards. It's pretty simple, and while it involves a lot of luck, it also involves a lot of work and dedication. Both started at the same time and both are posting on this website, but the first guy is putting a lot more effort into his content and into improving this website, this way improving his chances of getting noticed by someone important and getting the rewards he wants in the future.

Plus, think about this - let's say the second guy gets lucky as well and one of his posts gets recommended by a whale. He gets tons of followers and upvotes within a few days and he's happy for that. However, will he be able to keep all those followers happy and to get upvotes every single day for his content?

I don't think so. While he'll get a lot of followers and a lot of money for a short period of time, he may lose everything pretty fast because his articles and his entire content aren't high quality. Getting a lot of people to follow your profile is useless if you can't keep them there by giving them enough valuable content.

In this case the "strategy" of the first guy is better again. Because he creates amazing content and because he's doing his best to communicate with the people commenting on his posts he won't lose as many followers as the first person. He may lose some, but the rest will stay for the content he's creating.

That's how you should do things, and that's how you should think about Steemit next time you hope a whale notices your content. While getting noticed by someone important means you got lucky, your work, dedication and interaction with the community will also play a big part in that.

That's why if you want to get far on this website and anywhere you work, you need to make your own luck. It's always better to do that than to wait for a miracle, something that may take years to happen.
