I started a writers' community called [The Ink Well.](https://peakd.com/c/hive-170798/created) Why haven't I seen this post sooner and written something to showcase what hive means to creative writers like me who have embraced Hive blockchain? God knows! I've been sick for the last five days with some type of flu-like BS so maybe that is why. But this morning, despite the usual thirty minutes coughing my lungs up, I feel almost normal. I'm staring out of the window now wishing I could go for a walk, or maybe go and speak to the friendly priest in the orthodox Greek church across the road from me who often lets me sit in their amazing classical gardens to meditate. He always tries to convert me to Christianity, then gives up after ten minutes and we have a cup of tea together, discuss philosophy and the issues of the day. He is a good egg. The sun is shining here for once and that garden is looking mighty enticing, but like ['cool hand luke',](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cool_Hand_Luke) I'm on lock down. P.s. Dan, I'm going to make sure my community knows about this initiative asap so that they can take part. Expect some high quality stories and maybe some poetry about hive. Here is one I wrote around a week ago aimed at Justin Sun just before we forked away from steem.
What I'm about to write is inspired by a dream I had early this morning just before I woke up. But enough with the introduction, lets get down to the story.

Hive Vs Steem a Night at the Opera

I had a dream last night. In that dream there were a cast of characters rehearsing for an opera. @ned was there and others like @andrarchy, I recognized @elipowell and a few others from the old steemit.inc team. @theycallmedan was also there and @therealwolf who I met briefly at steemfest 3. There were a few others who are witnesses or Devs but you know how dreams are, they merge into a strange mishmash of scenes that flow like pouring water from one cup to another. There was also a huge amount of the hive/steem community there as well. Many people I met at steemfest 3 and I'm not going to turn this into a tagging extravaganza so I'll just say at least 200 people from the community. @ned was up on stage on his own and there were two people singing in conversation with him. One of them was definitely @soyrosa, which she may find amusing. Also I think 'community member two was @jeffjagoe who I also met for the briefest of moments on the final night of steemfest 3 with @misslasvegas. But I couldn't swear that it was Jeff so I'll keep that character classified as *Community member 2.* ___ **The dialogue went something along these lines:** **Ned:** we have the best interests of the community at heart... you can trust us. **Soyrosa:** when will we see an SMT? **Community member 2:** Yes, when will we see Hive communities? *At which point I jumped on stage and sung...* **raj808:** When will we ever see, any benefit from the ninja mine? *Ned shakes his head.* **Ned:** You do not understand, that money is mine. It was never meant for any development, I delegated as I saw fit and if you don't like it you can sit on this. *Ned laughs and holds up his middle finger thus π before swinging his guitar up onto his lap.* **Soyrosa:** raj808 is right, you seem to like to buy guitars, but so far all you do is promise not to interfere and then delegate to a thousand accounts and move stake around so that you can hide what you do. **raj808:** Soyrosa speaks truth, it is not your stake to sell, or to use to shine your shoes!π Your actions leave's all of us walking on eggshells, burn the stake or use it to market steem to the benefit of the community and not just yourself. *Ned shakes his head angrily.* **Ned:**I am an entrepreneur and a pioneer. *Ned strums his guitar whimsically.* **Ned:**Everyone says so... I've already said, you have nothing to fear. *Justin Sun pokes his head out from the side of the curtain to the left of the stage and quickly ducks back out of sight.* Community member 2 points at Justin and the rest of the audience boos. **Community member 2:** Who are you trying to kid? Selling your stake to the Tron blockchain BillyTheKid. *Justin Sun pokes his head out from the side of the curtain again, this time wearing a cowboy hat and quickly ducks back out of sight.* The whole crowd boos and jeers angrily. *Ned strums his guitar one final time and smiles.* ___

What the actual fuck! I don't even like opera. It was at this point that I left the large opera house by a side door and lay down in the sun listening to everyone singing their arguments inside. [Helios](https://www.ancient.eu/Helios/) shone rays of healing light down on me and warmed my bones that had become as cold as ice.

 Make of that what you will. I think I have an idea how to interpret this crazy dream and why it relates to Hive. I haven't written this just to give you all an insight into my fevered psyche π **My dream is about my hope and belief that hive will not end like steem as an opera of manipulation and miscommunication.** That stuff makes for great fiction and dramatic writing, but it is no way to promote and run a new technology/business. **There has been a lot of hype around hive in the last few days, which is great!** We need to let the world know that steem as it was always meant to be has come into being. Rising from the flames of Justin Sun's attempts to burn a decentralized platform to ashes. Like the [phoenix](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_(mythology)) hive has risen from those ashes and through a fork we have achievied what was described in that mythological parable. Something decentralized (or at least massively more decentralized than steem ever was) has risen into life. **Technologically, Hive is an expression of the immortality that a community driven dpos chain can achieve.** So why were none of the big players actors on stage in my dream, other than the bad guys? This is where my hopes for Hive lie. I don't think that my subconscious left them out for any reasons of disrespect for the effort/achievements of the Devs and business people in the hive/steem community. **I hope, and have already observed, that everyone will have a much larger say in what happens on this Hive blockchain. The small stake holders, as well as the large!** Very simply, I think that the dialogue in my dream opera mirrors these exact hopes for Hive. Lets face it, steemit.inc ignored even the higher level members of the steem community for years. If you want to try and attach social hierarchy to blockchain, even the big players were ignored half the time π **Steemit.inc under @ned's leadership didn't even communicate properly with the witnesses, Dapp creators and the developers of steem.** Forget about the average user, there was zero interaction beyond a chance at a response on one of the Steemit.inc official blogs, or one of their team members if you were lucky. Even then, the only responses I ever got were carefully worded reputation management comments when I pointed out facts that were critical of what they were doing. The whole narrative of my insane dream opera is about average community members actually getting responses on a one to one from Ned. Disrespectful, deceitful and dishonest responses... but he actually had a dialogue. This is something that only happened with steem right near the end when Ned was playing the game of trying to keep everyone on chain to retain token value that he eventually sold. Even then he only answered questions from a select few and spent most of his time strumming his guitar in the background at meetings. **I believe Hive will be different. I believe that the average community member writer/blogger/vlogger will be listened too and answered. I have seen this happening already** **I believe that on Hive people who build communities will be respected and helped in some way to empower and reward their subscribers.** Hive is a new blockchain. A chain where the community has much more control. Sure, power is still delineated by stake, value added through utility, and perceived position from past actions on steem. **But I see such a powerful opportunity in Hive, and it is the opportunity for everyone to have the freedom to express themselves... and be heard.** **From the top players, to the minnows and redfish.** We have an opportunity to put aside these classifications - basically social constructs - without the threat of Ned's or Justin Sun's ninja mined stake looming over our heads like a perpetual rain cloud. I remember steem when people feared saying the wrong thing to certain people because they ran communities with massive delegation from one of stincs sock puppet accounts. If the steem witnesses hadn't frozen Justin Sun's stake voting rights and forked away into hive that same game of manipulation would have started again with a new player with a new agenda. In my opinion that agenda would have been to promote Tron through steem. Justin would have had the attitude Tron number one, steem just another acquisition. ___ **What Does Hive Mean To Me, simplified?** * Hive means freedom to express yourself without censorship. * Hive means decentralization, and more access to communicate/challenge those with larger stake or more perceived position. * On a personal level, Hive means taking back control of the value of nearly 3 years worth of work. * Hive means community before anything else. * Hive means a new beginning and not repeating the mistakes of the past (see below). ___ Finally at the end of his post @theycallmedan says: > This is truly a rare opportunity.
Letβs not fuck it up this time. Iβm committed to helping Hive thrive.
Quote from [What Does Hive Mean To Me? Initiative.](https://peakd.com/hiveimpact/@theycallmedan/what-does-hive-mean-to-me-initiative) I want to echo this, and point out that we literally have every mistake that was ever made on steem as examples of how not to run hive blockchain into the ground. That includes curtailing abuse, we've seen it all and we know who orchestrated these things. I'm all for let bygones be bygones, but with the caveat that people with large stake who care about initiating real change and positive development, monitor the situation and don't allow the greedy to make exactly the same mistakes that happened on steem. **Lets make Hive the best it can be #hiveimpact** **Thanks for reading.** If you too would like to write an insane dream inspired opera to post on Hive blockchain, or any type of poetry or fiction, please do check out the new community I created with @stormlight24 called [The Ink Well.](https://peakd.com/c/hive-170798/created)

Also, with the advent of https://hive.vote/ it is now possible to follow The Ink Well curation trail on Hive blockchain. It works just the same as steemauto; simply navigate to the curation trail section and search for theinkwell (all one word with no @ symbol) and our trail will pop up as an option.

Similarly delegations are possible on Hive using the fantastic https://peakd.com/ Hive Blockchain front end. If you wish to delegate to @theinkwell that supports creative writing on Hive by voting all of our contributors, you can do this from the wallet section of https://peakd.com/

At the moment I'm not 100% sure who has delegated what amount to the @theinkwell community as the tools are still under development to check these stats accurately. But through talking to people and asking around I know who to thank, and also to mention that we have a mystery delegate of at least 500 hive power (maybe more) which is captivating my mystery writer's mind with a tickle stick of intrigue π

A big thank you to all our confirmed delegations from:
@felt.buzz @riverflows @trucklife-family and me @raj808.

Please let me know in comments if you're a mystery delegate, or reach out via discord where my name is the same as my hive username, and I'll add you to the list of thanks.

Click banner to visit our community page Find us on twitter by clicking the banner above.
