🦉 The Eurasian nuthatch or wood nuthatch (Sitta europaea asiatica)

This nimble friend is the only bird in my area that can climb down a tree trunk head down. The bluish-gray back and strong beak give away the professional. The nuthatch pecks at the bark to get insects or hide seeds for later.

Unlike woodpeckers, the nuthatch does not use its tail as a support when climbing. It moves along the tree in short jumps, clinging to the slightest unevenness with its claws. In winter, it is often seen at bird feeders, where it carries peanuts or sunflower seeds to push into the crevices of the bark "for a rainy day."

Nuthatches are very accustomed to people, so you can approach them closely, and in city parks and groves, where many people walk, they are even capable of taking food from your hands.
