As I mentioned in a previous post, I have Fungus Gnats in my soil. I picked up some DE to get rid of them. To the Fungus Gnats this stuff is like shards of broken glass, it gets in their joints and breaks up their exoskeleton and dehydrates them. It's not harmful to plants or humans though. A 4 lbs bag was like $12. I just sprinkled it over the top of the soil and mixed it in a bit. The gnats need to come up to the surface, and that is where they will come into contact with the DE.

I think this stuff will come in handy as it sounds like bugs come in potting soil mixes quite regularly and this stuff will take care of a lot of them. I have these gnats in all my soil so I'm going to have to use this stuff as I use the soil. From what it sounds like is it only really works if it's dry so it's gotta be put on top of the soil while the top is on the dry side. If it gets wet, it'll work after it dries out, but not while wet.
