Hi, needleworkers. I would love to share with you how I made this Bubu kimono. During the weekend I decided to watch a movie called “The Kill Room” There was a character that caught my attention in the movie and also inspired this outfit. The character was called “the kimono”. This character portrayed a bold, determined, and powerful art critic who wore stunning kimonos and they looked so good on her. So I thought, why not make a kimono outfit for myself too? So I decided to check my store if I have any suitable fabric. Finally, I saw one that could be used. The fabric is old, it has been with me for 3 years now and already has some defects. Since I'm making it for myself, who cares? I searched all over YouTube to watch any tutorial on how to cut a kimono. But unfortunately, I can't find any. The video I saw rather based on Hanbok and Yutaka. I was slightly frustrated as I spent hours trying to look for just one video on how to make a kimono. Having an idea of what I wanted to make, I decided to spice it up by making it in a bubu style since I couldn't find a video on how to make Korean kimono. I also spiced it up by adding beads to the kimono collar. ***Material used*** *3 yards of soft fabric (I don't know the name of the fabric I used but the texture is like that of a lining)* *1/2 yards of organza* *beads* *thread* *bead needle* **The process** *** STEP 1 (the cutting process)*** I started by ironing the fabric that I was using, this step is important in the cutting process. I then folded the 3 yards of fabric into four. I chalk the measurements and cut them out. *Ps: The Red line indicates where I'm going to cut* *The yellow mark indicates point* Since I'm cutting the back and front together, the front is up while the back is under, and the front is shorter than the back with 1” on the width. The neckline is 4” on fold. For the back I went done by 1” but for the front, I went down by 15” I use a French curve to join the two points so that the front neckline will have a little curve. I slanted the shoulders 3” to the end of the sleeves. Then, I slanted the sleeve by 1”. I measured 18” *17”+1”* for the down of the dress, then I joined it with a curved line to the sleeve *All steps are illustrated in the picture above* I cut it out ***STEP 2(sewing process)*** I joined the shoulders together. For the kimono neck, I cut a 6” wide and 130 long organza (I had to join to get my desired length). So folding it, will be 3”. I joined the organza to the neckline. This is what it looks like, after joining the organza. I proceed to Join the sides of the dress After joining both sides, I did an inner belt that I could tie If I wanted to fit around my waist. Then I proceeded to add the beads. ***STEP 3(the beading process)*** The beading pattern is very simple. I started from the middle of the neck, 3 beads on the first line, 2 beads on the second line, three 3 beads on the next line, and so on I used a small crystal beads The beading pattern *Progress photo* After beading, I added a hook and eye as a fastener which I regretted I could use a press button instead. I measured where I wanted to put the hook and eye The eye The hook I did two foldings on the sleeves to make the sleeves shorter. This is the finished dress. I hope you like it. ____ _____ Thanks for reading my post, and have a fabulous day 💕. ____ ____ *All images are mine*
