What if there's no more work for us in 25 years? #DigitalRevolution

This article is a prelude to several articles which I would like to dedicate to the topic of the Digital Revolution. There are huge changes on the doorstep and I feel obliged to provide information and opinion.

The University of Oxford has found in a study on "the future of work" that within 25 years, half the American jobs will probably be lost. I believe that these results can easily be applied to European circumstances, too. If you would like to have more detailed information, you can find it here.

Signs are already here. Cashiers in supermarkets are constantly being replaced by self-service machines. Autonomous driving is a trend and it's only a matter of time before they will change our everyday traffic life forever. And that's just the tip of the iceberg!

A tsunami gains momentum

I'm talking about the digital revolution. To me, it looks like a wave far out in the ocean. One that is in the process of gaining momentum to finally hit the mainland as a massive tsunami.

Robotics and artificial intelligence will change our world. And to a degree that is not yet foreseeable at all at this point in time.

The joke about the whole thing is that this fact has not yet reached the mainstream. In other words: we are about to miss this development completely. If we do not open our eyes and understand what is going on here, this can have disastrous consequences for our society.

Richard David Precht speaks of conditions that can be compared to those of the first industrial revolution. Society and the government were not up to the spirit of the times at that time. Among other things, this led to precarious working and housing conditions and a completely inadequate welfare state. For instance, there was a lack of health insurance funds and insurance companies.

Is the same now threatening us?

Not necessarily. Because the omens are different than they were back then. Unlike at that time, no new markets were opened up, but only existing markets were optimized with the help of robotics and artificial intelligence. It is quite conceivable that blockchains have a big word to say...

This means that many jobs simply don't have to be executed by humans because they can be easily automated by robots.

Here you can see a chart showing which jobs are most threatened:

Does it make any sense that we are still doing unnecessary work?

Machines cannot be human beings!

Technology is already superior to us in many areas. Chess grandmasters and, most recently, the best Go players in the world no longer stand a chance against AI like Google Deepmind : link

But one thing robots and artificial intelligence can't do for sure: being human. Even if we should be able to replicate the human brain identically at some point. I do not believe that a human being, with human feelings, with human creativity and a sense of justice, cannot be reproduced in this way. The sum of the individual parts does not result in a whole...: PP

The basis for this argumentation is a thought experiment, which has become world-famous as "Marry's Room":

I can well understand that with such future prospects, feelings of happiness do not necessarily burst out of you! For instance, when I think of futuristic robot dystopia from film and television, I am getting a little nasty myself. But it doesn't have to happen that way. I believe that we can actively shape our future and contribute to a more utopian vision of the future.

Finally, we must talk about the future in which we want to live and not in which future we will live! With our voice we can contribute to the creation of a world that is worth living in with our ideas and projects. We are still at the beginning and there is still a long way to go. But it will be an adventurous journey and no one knows where it will lead us.

What future do you want to live in? Let's talk about it! :))
