Everyone is abuzz over Nintendo’s newly released follow up to the Wii, the Wii U. Let’s see how it went for me:* So I just picked up the deluxe 32 GB model of the Wii U and it's pretty cool. Nintendo has finally made a high-definition console and this is great news if you're a Nintendo fan. The Wii U GamePad feels pretty good in your hands, buttons are in easy to access places and there's even a stylus right at the back that you can use to point at things on the screen. One of my favorite games last generation was Super Mario Galaxy and I would love to see what Super Mario Galaxy looks like on a high-definition screen and now with the Wii U I think we're gonna get something like that. But for now though you have Nintendo Land. Nintendo Land is set up like a theme park and there's a whole bunch of attractions in the park that are made off of old Nintendo properties and even some new ones. You've got an attraction for The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, Pikmin, Metroid, Animal Crossing and even Luigi's Mansion from the GameCube. Overall Nintendo Land is a pretty entertaining game. There's a lot of stuff that you can do in it and a lot of the games show off the features of the Wii U quite well. With the Wii U GamePad you can enter a first-person mode and view the game world through the gamepad, moving the game up, down and side to side to change your view. Having this first-person view perspective on your controller is actually a pretty neat feature and it really makes you feel like you're in the game. I'm a pretty big fan of Pikmin. I have both Pikmin one and two for the GameCube and for the Wii so when they announced that Nintendo Land was getting its own little miniature Pikmin game I knew I had to pick it up and really if you're a fan of the Pikmin franchise this is really cool. If you're going to go out and get a Wii U I recommend that you pick up Nintendo Land. It just offers you the most gameplay experience for your dollar and it really does show you everything that the Wii U is capable of. It's a must buy for me. The other game I picked up for the Wii U was ZombiU. This game does a really great job of showing you exactly what a hardcore game would feel like on the Wii U's controls. There's a whole bunch of features in this game from melee combat, shooting and little mini games that are thrown in here and there. I personally think the game has a couple of flaws, I mean for one it's really, really dark. You can barely see anything, and when you have your flashlight on it feels like you're looking through a tube. In some cases the game can get so difficult that it's almost relentless in its onslaught of zombies. Overall ZombiU is a pretty cool experience and it shows off some things that Nintendo Land didn't even try to do and for that it's worth a play at least. One of the issues I've had with the console so far is that it's really, really, really, super slow when going from menu to menu and starting up games isn’t very fast either. I'm still kind of trying to figure out exactly what Nintendo's game plan is because the system seems to do a lot of things at once but not any one thing incredibly well. The Wii U isn't about the console, it's all about its controller and if you don't like the controller you're not going to like the console. It's as simple as that. ---
Follow me on Steemit @Rerez for more gaming posts!
