Clone consoles like the Retron5 have become very popular over the past 5 years. With the ability to imitate a particular console with added features or support for multiple systems, they are extremely useful for retro game fans who don’t want to keep all their systems connected at the same time. However, these clones seem to only focus on NES, Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis, with the occasional support for a different system. There are systems that have never gotten a clone console that lets you easily play their games on modern TVs, boost the image to high-definition or enjoy save states and built-in cheat codes. Here are three clone console that are desperately needed for today’s retro game scene (with rad name suggestions from me too). # Retrovision *** Image Source: [The Dot Eaters](http://thedoteaters.com/?bitstory=intellivision) The oldest system that gets supported by these clones is the NES. Anything older than that is reliant on emulation or aging, 40 year old gaming hardware. Some of the oldest systems didn’t even ship with the ability to connect to a TV via a coaxial cable. We need a clone console that supports Atari 2600, 5200, 7800 in addition to the ColecoVision and Intellivision systems. These games might be downright primitive, but they have a strong library of games with many titles that never have been released on compilations. The blocky graphics could gain a razor-sharp edge with a boost to 720p and having the ability to play all of these old, bulky consoles in a single machine would be warmly received by the retro gaming scene. Apparently Hyperkin has been working on an HD Atari 2600, but its looking like the project might have gotten shelved, as no new information has hit in a very long time. # Retron64 *** Image Source: [Emuparadise](Visit) With it passing the 20-year-old milestone, the Nintendo 64 is definitely a retro console in 2018. The game library is mostly trapped in those gray (and sometimes red/green/blue/black) cartridges, with mostly only Nintendo titles getting released for digital download. What about classics like *Beetle Racing Adventure, Mischief Makers* and *Conker’s Bad Fur Day*? You have to either emulate or have the real hardware and carts to play most of these games. Its time that the N64 got the same love that its older brothers have received. The N64 has aged poorly in the visuals department, and while the boost to HD won’t fix it’s main issue (the muddy textures), I’m sure some graphic enhancements could be implemented to make the games more palatable. # HexLaser *** Image Source: [The ISO Zone](http://www.theisozone.com/screenshots/dreamcast/evolution-the-world-of-sacred-device-dreamcast/) This is what I’m most salivating for. While backwards compatibility for modern consoles is a hit-and-miss solution, I think its time for us to get a system that plays all of the old disc-based games that are difficult to play today without the real hardware. PS1 games play on every PS1/PS2/PS3 model, so I think the console should focus on the other 90’s disc-based consoles — specifically these six systems: TurboCD, Sega CD, 3DO, CDI, Saturn and Dreamcast. Getting all of these consoles under one hood might be a challenge, but if it can be done it would be massively popular since these old machines were unreliable even back then and are getting increasingly hard to find in working condition. ### What would be your dream clone console for systems that haven’t gotten the treatment yet? Commodore 64 perhaps? Let’s discuss. <center> ## Thanks for reading.
