I've come to think of pooling on various DEFI platforms as having four risk categories.... safe/ stable, lowish-risk, mid-risk and crazy crazy. And in this wonderful world of DEFI I've found that, as a general rule, what I think of as 'safe/ stable' (it's all relative of course) tend to have lower yields. Broken down the categories in my brain thing look like this: - Safe/ stable - around 10-15% (stable coins/ BTC-ETH pairs) - lowish-risk - around 15-30% (typically DEFI native coins paired with something else, like BNB-ETH) - mid-risk - around 30 -70% (e.g. LEO-BNB, the cubs) - and crazy crazy - 70% + (e.g. Polycub ATM (well it is NEW!) and the crypto RAIDER pools) Note that this is entirely subjective and just a heuristic device my brain-thing has developed to help me navigate my DEFI options personally. NOTE also that I don't even factor in the bat-shit-crazy returns on offer in early dayz projects! They are just not real and should be managed actively and with great care, and are very short-term - I am thinking here medium to long term! This is how I tend to allocate my assets: - Safe/ Stable - 40% - Lowish risk - 30% - Mid-risk - 20% - Crazy crazy - 10% ### SAFE/ STABLE options The 'safe-stable' lower yielding pools and farms tend to be those involving lower risk assets with more stable prices - such as BITCOIN, ETH, and (obviously?) stable coins. There are many options on many platforms for pooling these large market-cap assets which offer you around a 10% return, and the same can be said for just staking many coins too, such as Hive or ATOM for example, and if you are just staking then there is no risk of impermanent loss. Now obviously there are still risks with pooling such assets on any platforms: even stable coins have vulnerabilities, and BTC and ETH can still go up and down, but generally speaking IF the crypto market is on an uptrend as a whole then BTC/ ETH are going to be trending upwards along with everything else. ### Lowish Risk Then there are the slightly higher risk options available - pooling the main DEFI platform coins such as BNB/ MATIC/ AVAX with stables or BTC/ ETH which typically offer you a 20-30% return - there's a slightly higher risk here IMO because DEFI staking coins have no utility other than to make you more money, and there is PLENTY of competition with the ever growing number of DEFI protocols out there. ### Mid-Range Risk I don't know if I'm being unfair calling the LEO and Cubs mid-range risk assets, but this where MOST of my 60-70% yields are allocated. Oh and yes, I know the yields on Cub/BNB and so on have been higher, but I just have a feeling they are going to settle down to be slightly lower in the not too distant future, so I'm future proofing this. My justification for calling these mid-range risk is the one point of issuance with LEO and the competition for Cub, anything that's pure DEFI is a risk, BUT one of the wonderful things about the whole [LEO/CUB ecosystem](https://polycub.com/staking) is that it has been giving me a decent return for what feels like quite low risk! #### Crazy crazy Everyone needs something in the crazy crazy - and for me ATM this means the PolyCub-ETH farm - although I'm holding off piling into it too hard, and the RADIER pools - the later offer a great return, but anything offering over 100% APY I am wary of and am aware my asset values could drop by 50% easily, which is much LESS likely with stables and BTC/ ETH.... ### Average Yields is what it's all about.... If you take the percentages I've given above then you get an average yield of 30%, while only risking 10% of your assets in crazy crazy pools.... For every $1000 you have invested you get the following returns.... Now that breakdown may not suit everyone, but it suits me!
