El pasado sábado 1ero de Enero, mientras caminaba a primera hora por el solar o patio trasero de mi casa, buscando aguacates caídos durante la noche, encontré un objeto que a lo lejos parecía un pedazo de tela de color rojo. No culparía a nadie si hubiese pensado que se trataba de los calzones de San Nicolás perdidos en alguna travesura en el trópico.

Lo primero que me pregunte fue ¿Qué es eso y cómo eso llegó allí?. Al acercarme y tomarlo me dí cuenta que se trataba de uno de esos globos con listas de peticiones y deseos liberados justo en el momento de entrada del Año Nuevo, costumbre que se ha arraigado en Venezuela en los últimos años. Tomé el globo que tiene forma de corazón que estaba en muy buen estado, a pesar de lo frágil y delicado del material de que esta hecho. Al intentar tomarlo se engancho en una ramita de una planta seca en el patio de la casa y se rasgó. De todas maneras,  decidí resguardarlo de la leve lluvia que estaba cayendo y ha estado cayendo todas la mañanas durante las dos últimas semanas.

While trying to take it , it hooked on a twig of a dry plant in the yard of the house and tore. Anyway, I decided to protect it from the light rain that was felling and has been falling every morning during the last two weeks.

El día domingo 2 de enero, primer fin de semana del año 2022, mientras trabajaba con mi laptop, la cual tiene ya unos cuantos años a mi servicio, comenzó a apagarse por recalentamiento. Siendo un fin de semana feriado por el Año Nuevo, me vi obligado a pensar en una solución. Recordé entonces que el cielo literalmente me había enviado el globo, aunque ya no se podía usar para enviar mensajes al infinito, servía como material de reciclaje. Además recordé que la única estructura de soporte del globo es un aro de madera que sostenía la pieza en donde se colocaba el dispositivo para el calentamiento del aire que permitía que el globo se elevará. ¡Y voila!, allí estaba la solución al recalentamiento de mi laptop. Me dirigí a mi habitación, estiré un poco un clip de metal y coloque la parte del globo donde está el aro de madera sobre la salida del aire acondicionado, ya que vivo en un lugar bastante caliente. Lo más sorprendente, es que al llenarse de aire frio, esté último sale por las rasgadura hecha cuando tropecé el globo con la ramita seca, justo un poquito por encima de la parte superior de la mesa sobre la cual reposa la laptop y la enfría de manera perfecta y lo más importante es que no afecta para nada el enfriamiento de la habitación.

On Sunday, January 2, the first weekend of 2022, while working with my laptop, which has been at my service for a few years, it began to turn off due to overheating. Being a New Year's holiday weekend, I was forced to think of a solution. I remembered then that the sky had literally sent me the balloon, although it could no longer be used to send messages to heavens, it still could be used as a recycling material. I also remembered that the only support structure of the balloon is a wooden ring that held the piece where the device for heating the air was placed that allowed the balloon to rise. And voila!, there was the solution to overheating my laptop. I went to my room, stretched out a bit of a metal clip and placed the part of the balloon where the wooden ring is, put it over the air conditioning outlet. The most surprising thing is that when filled with cold air, this comes out of the tears made when I tripped the balloon with the dry twig, just a little above the top of the table on which the laptop rests and cools it perfectly and the most important thing is that it does not affect the cooling of the room at all.

Me pareció que ésto puede ser una solución temporal para este tipo de problemas que se puede implementar con material desechable, usando como modelo un “cataviento”, que es una herramienta para indicar la dirección del viento. Se requerían dos aro, hechos con alambre o madera; uno grande que se colocaría a la salida del aire frio del aparato de aire acondicionado y uno más pequeño colocado cerca de la laptop o computadora de mesa. El conducto o “manga” para el aire frio se puede hacer con un pedazo grande de plástico o bolsas grandes hechas de  ese material. Si se requiere una estructura o armazón para un mejor desempeño, ésta puede hacerse con alambre. Como dice el dicho, “!Si del cielo te caen limones, aprende a hacer limonada!” Feliz y alegre inicio de año para todos.

I thought that it could be a temporary solution to this kind of problems that can be implemented with disposable material, using as a model a “wind sock", which is a tool to indicate the direction of the wind. Two rings were required, made of wire or wood; a large one that would be placed at the outlet of the cold air of the air conditioner and a smaller one placed near the laptop or desktop computer. The duct or "sleeve" for cold air can be made with a large piece of plastic or large bags made of that material. If its requires a framework for a better performance, it can be made with wire. As the saying goes, "! If lemons fall from heavens, learn to make lemonade!" Happy and joyful start to the year for everyone.
