I Introduces The Interns To Fish 🐟 Farming.
Hello Hivers!!.
Welcome to my blog.

So today I introduces the interns to yet another aspect of farming that I feel it is a key component of my organic integrated farming model.

Fish farming is another aspect of farming that can be a very lucrative venture to go into.

Fishes are quite easy to take care of, unlike poultry, it doesn’t take too much of your time daily to get over with your daily routine.

But the major problems facing fish farming down here is the cost of maintenance, in terms of cost of feed, and water supply, for drugs, depending on your management practices fishes hardly get sick..

----

So, I first introduced the interns to the rudiments of fish farming in a presentation lecture which I titled, “**Fish Production and Management.**

On the presentation, I took them through the basic requirements of starting “Fish Production” and also exposed them to the obstacles and challenges one faces if he/she wants to start a fish farm.

After that, I explained to them the different types of production methods when it comes to fish farming.

Including myself, I usually thought the only way to breed fishes was in an earthen pond which is quite natural for the catfish, but I soon realized that we can actually rear fishes in any enclosure that can hold water.

***So that’s why I opted for a plastic tanks..***

I also talked about the management practices that are very vital when it comes to fish farming, these include.:
•	Stocking density
•	Sorting (grading fishes by sizes)
•	Water quality management
•	Tank management.

From The look on their faces, the presentation was very interesting.😁

We then, moved to do a practical work, on the fish which was to sort the fishes to various sizes and group them into 3 distinct size.; Small, Medium and Large sizes..

I ended up doing the sorting by myself, as the interns were quite afraid of holding a live catfish, but there were able to scope the fish out of the tank with a fish net scope..
It was really interesting..!!
