A Botanical Symphony
In Melbourne, there's a playful joke about hipsters being easily spotted by their beloved fiddle leaf figs. These leafy friends seem to thrive in the city's culture, much like my mother's ginarmous one and my own modest version. It's a culture that values the environment and this seems to be mirrored inside people's home. It's fascinating how the right soil biome plays an incredibly important role in their well-being.

The resilient and long lasting, hard to kill monstera deliciousa has thrived every home I've lived in, adding a touch of green that dominates the space. Their ability to thrive in self-watering pots makes their maintenance easy. I remember my Nana's courtyard, where a monstera even bore fruit—an unexpected delight in our climate - usually they grow in more tropical Queensland.

This little one, a gift from my mom, drifts around the beams, a survivor of a doggy disaster and brought back to life by my plant loving daughter-in-law. Its presence in the kitchen adds a delightful climbing spectacle, though it might be time for a new pot or even a more noticeable leaf from a different plant - maybe a devil's ivy?

The devil's ivy I do have is perched atop the fridge beside my green tara, and is a personal favorite. It blends effortlessly blend into the space, and provides offshoots to make more plants to spread around or gift to people.

These houseplants, happy and thriving in various rooms, are natural air purifiers, and bring nature indoors. Even my doona cover today seems to coordinate effortlessly with the houseplants, just for this Hive post!

Keeping my grandson away from them is a mission - babies do love to eat dirt. My son came up with a perfect solution. He has nearly grown out of it now. I like to think he's a little gardener in the making.
