Yep, I'm still in the 1970's - it was a good decade, me being born at the start of it. IN this series I'm going to visit some Australian classics - last week I shared three, but as I was going through the list I was thinking to myself: 'how can I POSSIBLY not include these three?'.

It's funny as most of these songs I won't seek out to listen to but when I hear them I feel happy. I don't know, maybe it just reminds me of the happy parts of my childhood and teenhood, which largely was soundtracked to music. 

#### The Nips are Getting Bigger - Mental As Anything

Now this is a bit of a weird one too as for years I had no idea what the lyrics meant. I remember singing it at school. Some believed it was vaguely sexual - ie 'nip'ples, and others racist - but when you read the lyrics, it's just about a guy in a pub with a drinking problem and the 'nips' are just small sips or drinks of booze. This was their debut album. In the late '70's and '80's you could hardly put the radio on without hearing Mental as Anything.

### Nick Cave Shivers

I think I've shared Nick Cave before here - Tupelo, The Mercy Seat and many others. Forgive me if I've already shared this one, but to me this has to be included in the decade of awesome Australian music. This is when Nick was with Boys Next Door. It's just a fucking beautiful song.

### X - I don't wanna go out
 
In 1979 the Australian band 'X' realised 'I don't wanna go out' - I remember hearing it on the radio. As you know my Dad always listened to alternative radio so a lot of the tunes I remember were a little bit wild or wierd sometimes. I can only imagine seeing this raw track performed at a pub in Sydney in the 1970's! Apparently a band called Royal Republic did a cover of it but since I'm in class as I write this I can't exactly listen - if you do, let me know which version you like better. I also liked their song ['Dipstick'](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_ctU1UFSQc) which I was singing one day when Jamie was checking the oil. Yes, that thing is called a 'dipstick' in Australia which I didn't know was unusual.
