Walk from Blanket Bay to Parker Inlet
The Great Ocean Road is famed for the walk that runs along a good part of it's length, from Apollo Bay westwards. It takes people along spectacular coastline and through forested gullys, across streams and along huge beaches. Most people walk sections of it and camp along the way.

For us, a seven kilometre return was enough. We often do little sections when we're down that way. This walk was from Blanket Bay in Cape Otway near Apollo Bay, to the stunning and secluded Parker Inlet.

On the way, we met this little guy. There's a lot of echnidna along that coast, evidenced by small holes where they dig with their sharp claws. They're terribly shy, and you need to be patient so they can be brave enough to show their faces for a photo.

We weren't sure if we'd end up going through scrub or have ocean views, but the first stretch wasn't disappointing at all.

From there it was koala territory scrub, all the way to the inlet. You can sometimes hear them grunting and growling - they make a hideous sound that would be utterly terrifying if you were alone in the bush encountering them for the first time. There IS a koala in the branches below. Can you spot him?

Some sections were really damp and mossy with treeferns, and some dry and full of windswept wizened tea tree. I loved the variety of this walk and though there was a bit of uphill, it wasn't terribly difficult, unlike some of the walks we've done in the area.

For a while we hung out in the inlet, just watching the ocean and soaking up some sun on the sand. It was perfect walking weather - not too hot, not too cold. From here you could walk to the lighthouse, another five kilometres, but we thought seven kilometres was just perfect for us.

If you ever head down this way, do make sure you leave some time for sections of the Great Ocean Road Walk - it's far more interesting than seeing in from the window of a tour bus.

It's possible to camp at Cape Otway but unless you've booked a site, it'd have to be a stealth carpark camp like we did, or a walk in tent site. I suppose you could also camp on the beach as well but be wary of the incoming tides! The ocean can be quite big and treachourous down there.

[Parker Inlet from the top carpark - it's a steep walk down to the bottom, which makes for a quieter beach!](https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.greatoceanwalk.info%2Fparker-inlet-to-point-franklin%2F&psig=AOvVaw24xn5KFNqywNFXO8Jh_92X&ust=1704171830170000&source=images&cd=vfe&ved=0CBIQjRxqFwoTCOCR5bq1u4MDFQAAAAAdAAAAABAE)
