As a Christian youth and a student, I have had to struggle with overcoming peer pressure. That's why this topic hits home.

Peer pressure is people in your age or social bracket trying to influence you and before you know it, if you are not discerning enough, you can be influenced to confirm to those people. It's okay if it's a positive pressure because it encourages one to imbibe beneficial behaviours but in a situation where it is a negative kind, it could lead to very harmful habits like doing drugs, taking alcohol, skipping classes and getting involved in very dangerous stuffs. For this reason, one must choose their groups wisely.

But most importantly, we must let the word of God be our guide, we must build our faith to the level that we are only controlled by the Holy Spirit.

Here are some scriptures that can boost our faith in God and help us stand firm even it means us standing alone.

Exodus 23:2 (NIV)

>Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong…”


1 Corinthians 15:33 (NIV)

>Do not be misled, bad company corrupts good character.’'

Galatians 1:10 (NIV)

>Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God?... If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.”


So it's not possible to cater to peer approval and God's approval at the same time, we must make a choice.
