We all know how 'coding' is considered a new language skill students must learn to survive in this increasingly tech friendly future. Advancement in technology and voluntary adoption of coding skills by young kids are some of the catalysts to push this theory forward. Many governments across the globe have made it mandatory for students to learn coding in schools and have included the learning plan in school curriculum. Well, add one more region on to that list. Ontario (Canada)'s new elementary math curriculum will introduce coding and computer storage management, among others, in Grade 1. It is great news as students from Grade 1 to 8 will learn basic concepts of coding. I personally believe that it will make them well adept to new realities and make them technologically aware. It may also boost their mathematical skills as well. Looking at the proposed requirements, it seems the changed curriculum may also focus on basic mathematics and data storage basics that are key to developing practical life skills. Let's see how successful this proposal would be and if there are strong oppositions. One thing for sure, this shows the importance of computer programming and coding going forward. >.....But we must move forward with these necessary reforms for students so that when they graduate they can aspire to get a good paying a job, a job related to the future economy, a job that could give them a yield to own a home one day *Ontario Government, Canada* The politicians and law makers are making these amendments to make sure the future graduates are attuned to the changing economic scenarios and job market. The change in learning sets and languages could be the knowledge boost they needed for so long. We can argue when should a kid start to learn coding but we cannot deny the fact that students should be aware of coding and basic facts of computer programming as this aspect of mind development is turning out to be a good life skill to have.
