For anyone who has been paying attention to RUNE and THORchain (topics that seem to be rather popular here on @leofinance) this has been a rough few weeks for morale. 

The protocol suffered not one, but two attacks recently.

Essentially both of these attacks were due to deficiencies in their ERC-20 contract code. The first attack was for around 5 million USD and the second around 8 million USD. It has been a rocky week for the price of the asset as well.

As you can see, things have taken a bit of a dump since the news broke about these attacks.

From what I can tell, the problem seems to be found in the fact that the team is moving very rapidly through their phases of development. I have always viewed RUNE as a must invest asset because of their goal to be the glue that links numerous blockchains through a DEX; something that Cub Finance is also seeking to do!

When the goals are huge, so are the risks and in this case RUNE was exploited twice due to trying to reach those goals without doing the proper security work beforehand. 

I have seen a lot of negative tweets regarding the protocol and I mean who can blame people after these attacks? We may be seeking to change the world with these innovations, but we are still talking about finances, something that people work hard to grow and secure; we need to respect the caution of even our most risk-tolerant group (crypto investors). 

I still think that there is a lot of hope for the THORchain protocol. It is still an amazing concept and there is a lot that can come from this. In the short-term, I hope that they slow down and really work out the bugs in the idea as it could prove to be pivotal in the financial world going forward.

Slow and steady wins the race, I'm still backing RUNE in the long term.
