Rollie back on track | Immigrant notes | How I ended up not drinking alcohol for 24 consecutive days

Alright, this is gonna be that confession blog.

Not even gonna use the #beersaturday tag this time — but big respect to @Detlev for building such a solid community here on Hive! 🍻

When the war started, I spent four months in a tiny Carpathian village near one of the best breweries I’d been involved with for a couple of years.
I was drinking 4–5 beers a day, every single day — mostly just to deal with the stress.

Eventually, I managed to escape the “most democratic prison in the world” and settled in Prague — aka beer heaven, with delicious local brews and heavy, tasty (but not exactly healthy) food.
So yeah, I had plenty of both.

At some point, it turned into a cycle: getting totally wasted twice a week, spending two days recovering, then repeating.
Again and again.

Mentally I was fried — always tired, anxious, couldn’t concentrate.
My weight hit 107 kg.
Felt like I was just wasting my life.

And all that with full responsibility still on my shoulders — finances, family, trying to keep things steady.

I went to the doctor for a routine check-up.
The results? High blood pressure. High blood sugar. High cholesterol.
I went through a few treatment courses, but nothing helped — I was still drinking like before.

Then one day I just said: enough.

In February 2025, I joined a gym and started going like clockwork — didn’t miss a single session for two months.
Still drinking, but way less — because training and alcohol just don’t mix. Simple as that.

Then came another round of tests.
Weight was dropping, but blood markers were still crap.
And that’s when I decided to flip the table.

24 days without alcohol.
Down 8,5 kg from my ATH)))

So far, so good.
My blood pressure is now 120/60.
I realized I’m just not the “one beer” kind of guy. So I made a clean cut.

Plan is to keep going like this till autumn, retest everything, and see how far I’ve come.

In the meantime — adding some strength training at home, lots of walking, biking, and eating clean.

Can’t wait for autumn.
