It is the duty of any responsible government to provide necessary amenities and infrastructure for her people. It is therefore proper for a people to hold her government responsible when they fail to live up to their obligations and that is why I am one of those who refuse to play psychophancy to any government in power just to gain favour from them.

I am an indigene of Abia State in Nigeria, and what I say here is from the perspective of a non partisan concerned citizen of the state. Presently in Abia State today, all state owned Primary schools, Secondary schools and also the only state owned Polytechnic in the state, Abia State Polytechnic, have been shut down for almost a week now.

The teachers and lecturers in these institutions have embarked on an indefinite strike because of non payment of salaries. The primary school teachers in the state are being owed salary arrears of three months, while their secondary school counterparts are owed six months salaries and the polytechnic lecturers are owed eleven months salary arrears.

The education sector in the state has been shut down and the governor is saying that the state doesn't have money to pay salaries, meanwhile he is embarking on multiple road construction projects simultaneously at the moment.

While I am not of the opinion that it is wrong to construct roads, but the Governor should be able to prioritize and  education should be given top priority. The same governor complaining that the state has no money to pay teachers and lecturers, spent hundreds of millions of naira just to collect an award from Vanguard Newspaper last week, money that would have been used to at least clear some of the debts.

While the children of the electorates sit at home because the governor has denied them the basic education that they are entitled to, the governor's children and the children of his cabinet members, attend the best private schools within and outside the country.

Nature and life itself is so well programmed and structured such that there is no lacuna in nature. Any generation of species that fails to produce those that will take over from them, will go into extinction.

I see this as a crime against the next generation because we are denying them the education and training they require to take over from us. Our leaders are deliberately keeping us in servitude and that is why they are giving their children the required education and denying the children of the electorates the opportunity to be properly educated so that their children will continue ruling our children.

As 2019 approaches, it is time once again to vote , let us therefore refuse to sell our votes as we vote out this tyranny against our children.
