There is a saying that we have all heard and that is ‘Pride Comes before A Fall’ what does this mean and how is it used.

I have seen it used often when others want to denigrate others and reinforce with others that don’t brag about your achievements, because you will come tumbling down.

I think people use it in the context of ‘Bragging’ because they have a level of jealousy that the other has possibly achieved something that they have not.

There is nothing wrong with being pleased for your achievements and when you are doing well in something to express that to others, because after all through sharing knowledge’s and process others can gain some incite as well.

However also be just as accepting of failures that we make because after all life and all that it encompasses are waves and nodes. Before one can know where up is one needs to know the baseline of down and to know what down is one needs to know a baseline of where up is.

There can be no success without having failure and pride, for want of a better word, the expressing of your current state also means that you need to be proud of your failures as well as your success, it is so easy to express pride when we are doing well but it is a bigger person to express pride when we are not.

I always like to look at life’s journey like a stick of Bamboo, it has smooth areas of growth and then a knot, a smooth area of growth and then a knot, this represents our stages in life, no matter what aspect it may be, we have moments when we are travelling well and growth is quick and smooth and then we face a hurdle where it is a bit harder to get through, but with the right attitude of growth we know that this knot is in fact a stabiliser, it allows for further growth to take place.

So when you are being proud of life’s movements, there is to be no shame in expressing that just as we should in the struggles. 

There are two Ego’s – Little ego and Big ego, Big Ego is the Ego that allows us to recognise in ourselves our own empowerment and our own achievements. Little Ego is when we believe that we can place ourselves above others and therefore denigrate others to a lower level.

Remember to express Pride with Big Ego, allow yourself the permission to feel good about your placement in the world and allow yourself to use your journey for growth.
