No, not Beatles nostalgia, or Buddy Holly nostalgia, or even Kinks nostalgia. Today, I wanted to share three of my favorite punk era songs that have nothing to with the Sex Pistols. How did this come about? For some reason, my Google news feed of late has been filling up with Sex Pistol news regarding some new film or documentary about them during their heyday. In fairness, I'm more of a Jam and Clash fan...even Wire I adore more than Rotten and company. Yet, for whatever, I'm getting contact Sex Pistol news. So with that in mind, I scoured YouTube to find three tracks that I love that are not a) the Pistols and that b) might fool the Google algorithm god. So here we go... ## The Damned : New Rose ## https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUxFQ5QBiYk [Source](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TUxFQ5QBiYk) I always thought this was the epitome of punk rock. It has the 1950's chord structure in place, but goes about 1000 miles an hour faster than those proto-punk rockabilly heroes. Sonic in nature with a pounding drum line, this is one song I always liked to play on Touchtunes in those magic moments where happy hour went way too long. Bonus points : the Google gremlins did not edit out that cigarette. ## The Buzzcocks : Ever Fallen in Love ## https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Af7ayYIJ9w [Source](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Af7ayYIJ9w) I don't know if this quite falls into the punk category, but I'm going to label it as such. This is Pete Shelley in his prime...a bit of Ray Davies, a bit of English rock, and the chainsaw guitars. Something tells me that John Lennon probably liked Shelley...Macca, probably not so much. Sorry Macca, I know you read this, but I'm just saying...*With a Little Luck* came out the same year as this Buzzcock classic. At least John had *Mind Games* out that year. Ok enough of that .... ## The Undertones : Teenage Kicks ## https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PinCg7IGqHg [Source](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PinCg7IGqHg) Ah the Undertones. My favorite Irish band. Sure, I went through a U2 phase like most people of my generation. You get those *Achtung Babies* and *War* CDs in your head, and you think it's eternal. Eternal it might be for some, as indicated by my work's office manager's favorite FM station that plays at least 4 U2 songs every day. It's downright cringe-worthy, honestly. I'd much rather listen to the Undertones over U2 any day of the week, presently. That's just me, however... That's it for this week's #TTT. Hopefully, I caught you all off guard with a couple of tracks you were unaware. I hope that's the case, at least. Thanks for stopping by to take a look, as always!
