Discomfort forces us to try something different from auto- matic behavior. It pushes the mind to search for a different but equally appropriate action for the current situation. It's an opportunity to grow past learned behavior. It's an opportunity to become aware and choose our actions. If we don't, we'll just switch to another automatic behavior.

Discomfort is an invitation to awaken. It says, "What you normally do isn't working in this situation. You must do some- thing different." You can try to force your old methods into the new situation, you can fight it, ignore it, leave it, or you can ac- cept its invitation to become more aware and allow yourself to expand.

The feeling of discomfort is an indication that you have an opportunity to grow from this situation. It signals the possible expansion of the personal mind. That uneasiness is the personal mind bumping up against a mental limit.

A new situation forces the personal mind to search for old behaviors and thoughts to apply to the new situation. When it can't find one, it becomes irritable, fearful, upset, or uncomfort able. Those feelings are not indicators that something is wrong -they're indicators that you're on the verge of growing.
