When you get a stick of broom and attempt to break it, you will not need to apply much effort on it and it will break. However, when the broomsticks come together in a bunch, it will become extremely difficult to break. This is because it has formed a team with other broomsticks. Similarly, in other aspects of life, there is strength in being united, and everyone tends to achieve a better result in quicker time when they act as a team.

I once watched a football match between a supposed big club that has many solid players in the football world and another club that just came out of the relegation zone. Amazingly, the smaller club beat the big club for the simple reason that they worked as a team. The big club went with big players but the small club went as a team. While the former put up great individual performance, the later put up great teamwork. Well, at the end, teamwork won over individual performance.

What teamwork does is that it combines their individual strengths so as to make up for their weakness. Forming a good team makes for completion. It is worthy to note that no matter how strong a soldier is and no matter how trained he is, he cannot form a one-man army squad, he will definitely need to team up with others to form a squad. Otherwise, he will become the victim even before the combat starts.

Teamwork gives you an extra leverage because each member of the team has their own area of expertise and bringing it together means that the team members will have an edge. In a perfect team, there is always a "division of labour", so that work will be done easier and faster. This is why, in a football team, there are the defenders, strikers, goalkeeper, etc, and everyone knows and functions in their own respective duties.

However, one thing to be aware of is that every team member has their particular relevance. Trust me, if a member begins to feel less important in the team, he may begin to withdraw his functions and the team will start cracking. Imagine if in a football match and only the players get rewarded for scoring but nothing is done to the goalkeeper, a time may come when he will lose interest and the team will concede goals.

In the human body for example, every organ has their own respective duty to play and any disfunction in any organ may put the whole body in disarray. If the mouth, for example, does not take in food, there will be nothing for the stomach to digest and there will be nothing to assimilate into the blood, and there will be no strength for the body to perform other functions. This is to tell you how important each organ is, and it is in working together that the body will stay healthy. In the same way, the team will remain relevant if the team members work together.

For team members to work together, everyone must the valued. You will not know the value of the team member that you despise until you miss their functions, then you will understand that you cannot even perform their duty. In an organisation, you may not know the value of the generator guy until he is absent and light goes off. This is the reason, if you want the best out of a team, you need to make everyone feel very important and they will put in their best for the team.
