It is no news that we are already witnessing advancements in technology. It is safe to say that we are in the center of the kind of technological revolution that has never been witnessed in the history of humankind. However, for every advancement in technology, there will always be its complementary consequences which will include the positive and the negative. This is why I believe that the impact and influence of technology on our lives are usually multifaceted and we shall take a look at them; starting with the positive impacts.

The first positive thing about technological advancement that we will look at is "easy access to information." We all know the power that is embedded in information and we are also in the age of information revolution. With the advancements in technology, especially the Internet-related ones, we can get access to vast resource materials that could provide information in documents, videos, and audio formats. As a matter of fact, without even leaving your room, just from the comfort of your device, you can connect to the rest of the world and share information. This is possible because of technology and this has interconnected people to made the world a "global village."

The next point is that technology has assisted and simplified human work. Imagine as a farmer and you have to dig the entire field with a digger by yourself. Before you go for 30 minutes, you would have already been tired and worn out, yet the work will be largely undone. However, if you employ the use of farm machines, not only will you complete the work in shorter time, but it will be easier and less stressful. This goes to prove the assistance of technology to humankind. In almost every field of human endeavour, technology has found a place; from industrial automation to make manufacturing easier, to office assistants, to transportation, just name it.

Another advantage and benefit of technology to humankind in this era is "human and environmental sustainability." Technology has created a way for the sustenance of our environment, but not just that, even the sustenance of the human race is part of it. Take this example; before the advent of technology, many simple challenges that would have been solved would just be left on fate, and most times, bringing about negative results. Imagine something like childbirth complications, in this era, there are options of caesarean section, etc, to save the life of the mother and baby. If there was no technology for it, it will be a major challenge. In fact, a lot of ease have been witnessed in the world by reason of technology.

We have seen a few positive impacts of technology, now let us balance it by touching briefly the negative impacts too. The first point is that it makes humans to live a sedentary and lazy lifestyle. When people depend almost entirely on technology, it will affect their own input. Imagine when computer and automation does your entire work for you, it will easily lead to laziness. While growing up, we learnt and memorized the multiplication tables to help us with mathematical calculations. But in this era, a lot of people now depend on calculators and it has affected them negatively - for just small calculation, they will rush to bring out a calculator.

In addition to this, technology has also seen to be decimating the human jobs. You will be surprised how many human jobs have been replaced by industrial automation. I once read about a manufacturing company that used to have a lot of workforce in the past, but now, almost 95% of the work are now done by robotic arms and automation, thus leading to the staff losing their jobs and then going back to the labour market. This has raised serious concerns because as machine begin to do what humans can do, the need for human workforce becomes lesser.

The last negative influence we will consider here is distraction. A lot of people are so submerged and glued to their devices that they lose touch of reality and are distracted from what is happening in the real world. I remember a very humorous experience that happened to me some weeks back. I came back in the evening and went to the kitchen to warm some food to eat. While the food was warming, I decided to check on my social media handle and I got carried away. Right inside the kitchen, the water in the food dried and was almost burnt without even me realizing. Imagine how distracted I was at that point. A lot of people have experience the same or similar things, which can also be remotely related to advancements in technology. You see, for every advancement in technology, there is always positive and negative sides to it.
