One thing about we humans is that we are not created the same way as we all have our individual differences. Though, God created us in his own image after his likeness, but even at that, he created in our different unique ways.

So, with the way we are created, we all have our strengths and weaknesses. The strength of one person might be the weakness of the other person and vice versa. But in all, we must all endeavor to change what's not that good about us and improve on our strengths.

So, as regards the topic of the prompt before us, I would like to talk about that one thing I would like to change about myself or improve on. Though, there's many things to improve on, but this major one I will be talking about is of urgent importance to me and my life.

So, the one thing I would like to change about myself is my mode of dressing as I'm used to putting on native clothes. Though, I'm a civil servant and we are mandated to always put on corporate dress and that's from Monday to Wednesday, but notwithstanding, whenever I put on my corporate dress, I used to feel uncomfortable unlike me putting on my native Yoruba attire.

My love for native attire or dress started a long time ago while I was living with my grandparents at the village. So, during that time, we were used to putting on native attire as we have no Corporate dress at all.

In fact, we were made to believe that those corporate attire were alien to our culture and that the only way to promote and showcase our culture to the whole wide world was to put on our native attire. So, this belief that has been inculcated in us made us always put on our native attire everyday of the year. I know someone would ask what our school uniform was then.

Though, we were supposed to be putting on the English dress uniform, but the village leaders went as far as discussing the issue with the commissioner of Education in the state who obliged to their demands and that's why I never put on any other thing to the school than my native attire, so also my colleagues back then.

So, this kind of life I have lived in the village could not be separated from me when I got to the city as I have been accustomed to living such a life for a very long time. So, when I got to the city to continue with my education after the demise of my grandparents, I found it difficult to adapt to the school, but it's later I adapted a little bit to the system, though, my adaptation was not total as I used to put on my native dress anytime I got home and this has always been my system of living ever since till this present moment.

Though, I'm not saying putting on my native dress is not good ooo, but what I want now is a blend of both and to always feel comfortable while putting on the normal corporate clothes. This I have been trying to do and inculcate, but I have been finding it difficult. Someone recently even advised me to do away with my native clothes which I did, but later I still got another set of native clothing which I have just sewed for wearing. Normally, I used to love the corporate wear on people, but I personally don't like putting it on as it used to bring uneasiness to me.

Like I said earlier, if not for the nature of my job, I wouldn't have had any corporate wear, but thank God at that, but even at that, I believe I'm not liking it at all. The government is not also helping in this regard as they have mandated it for us to be putting on the native attire twice a week which means three days of corporate wear and two for native wear. Had it been its corporate wears all through, maybe I would have improved and liked it.

But, now, I have made a decision to improve on putting on the corporate clothes and I believe that with time, I will get used to it. I will make sure I changed that aspect of my life sooner than later and I will come back here to testify to my fellow Hivians.

This is my entry to the hivenaija weekly prompt.

Thanks for reading.

The pictures are mine.
