https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZW7jQmojxA&list=PLqX-TWGEim2hcEou72qQTlP-J-UGeC7CN&index=9 It is my great pleasure to introduce you to a film in which I was able to break the boundaries of conventional time-lapse with my own version of a technique known as hyper-lapse. Please take the time to watch this film before reading on. It will only take you 2 minutes and I am sure you will enjoy it. https://i.imgsafe.org/c6b411b128.jpeg ## What is hyper-lapse? This system was created around 4 years ago and has since then become very popular amongst us time-lapse film-makers. It requires a lot of patience and a lot of post-processing. The photographer usually shoots using a tripod which is moved forward (or sideways) a small amount after each shot. And if there are moving clouds involved in the shot, the amount of time between shots needs to be consistent throughout. I usually give myself 15 seconds to move the tripod forward and be in correct position for the following shot. The hardest part of all about this technique is lining up the shot whilst under pressure to do so in a short space of time. Each shot needs to be almost identical to the previous in order to capture that the smooth flowing motion. And I can tell you this is very hard to do and takes a fair bit of practice before it is achieved successfully. Adobe After Effects is used to stitch all the shots together and stabilise the motion before cutting it into a film. https://i.imgsafe.org/c6b488c755.jpg ## Why sausages??? As a vegan this would not have been my first choice as a project, but a dear friend of mine in London asked for my assistance in promoting his business and when I have a friend in need, I am always there for them. It took me a week to choreograph, a week to shoot it and another week to edit the shots into a finished product. I asked him for nothing in return, for I do what so not because I expect to get paid, but because I love it. And in this way I am able to manifest money. https://i.imgsafe.org/c6b62e2eea.jpeg ## My goal This is a hyper-lapse film with a difference because despite being shot over a period of one week, the final film gives the impression that I move in one single shot from the field of pigs to the sausage factory (skipping the execution part!) to the production line and finally to the plate of food. This is why I had to choreograph the film first. And it took hours upon hours in the edit suite to stitch everything together in a way that looked acceptable to me. My goal was to produce something no one had ever done before and you will notice at two points in this film that I am able to drift seamlessly through a glass window, which as far as I know is a first for hyper-lapse film makers. One would normally have to spend huge amounts of money on post production special effects to achieve this kind of shot. But using my technique (in which there was no tripod) I was able to achieve it for free. https://i.imgsafe.org/c6b8768fbb.jpeg ## In conclusion I mentioned that I didn't charge him for the film, but what I did do was show it to many people who had businesses of their own. And it only took a few weeks before I was commissioned to make a similar kind of film showing the construction of the UK's largest solar farm. A three month job in which I was provided free accommodation next to the site and paid handsomely too :) Who can spot my spelling mistake in this film? By the time I noticed it the film was already on the internet! So left it in there and moved quickly on to the next fun project. https://i.imgsafe.org/c6b95442fa.jpg
