 Understanding fractals helps us better understand the world and the Romanesco broccoli stands alone in its design with an unmistakeable fractal formation. I noticed one in the shops recently and marvelled at its beauty for a moment while I took these shots.  Layers within layers within layers. Personally I find it mesmerising to look at.  Originating in Italy this cruciferous vegetable enjoys colder weather which is why they are currently available here in the South of France.  ## What can be learned from fractals? Nature creates with them and the Universe itself may be a giant fractal endlessly repeating itself. > Every particular in nature, a leaf, a drop, a crystal, a moment of time is related to the whole, and partakes of the perfection of the whole. Or at least, they wouldn't be able to create graphics which so much resemble our real world. If we look at this fern we can see how there is a recurring design being repeated over and over in ever smaller dimensions. Even something as inorganic as a digital cryptocurrency grows using the same system as nature for it is born forth from us humans, and we are inextricably connected to the magical mathematics behind fractals. ## Decentralised systems It is clearly demonstrated in nature that the decentralised system is more adept at survival. If our body consisted of a single cell it would be easy to kill. As a collection of cells, each one with the information which relates to the whole, we are not so easy to kill and our body has the ability to heal itself. The world has been built on endless centralised systems, making it vulnerable to countless problems... until now. The age of decentralisation is upon us and finally the lessons contained within the fractal innards of a simple romanesco broccoli are being applied to the whole.
