How do you beat procrastination?
When I started to learn about Steem, I quickly realized that it has some serious potential. When I saw how much first posters got rewards (although they weren't paid yet) I knew I had to start writing too. I even managed to make a few posts.

On intellectual level I knew that I could make a lot of money by writing every day. On early days there were no competition. But now that the first rewards are paid, many others truly realized that *"hey, this platform actually pays something!"* From now on it will be much more harder to get big rewards because competition is much more harder.

Looking back now it seems ridiculous how little I wrote. I'm unemployed so even time wasn't an excuse.

Real reason was my Instant Gratification Monkey. Tim Urban has been [writing about it](http://waitbutwhy.com/2013/10/why-procrastinators-procrastinate.html) and I find it highly corresponding to my behavior.

He gave a TED talk about it a while ago:

My monkey hasn't really been that bad. When I read posts in Steem I usually get a lot great ideas for writing. Sometimes the monkey lets me write the first draft. But eventually it kicks in and the writing is not finished.

- *"Hey, let's go and watch [videos about people doing stupid things and hurting themselves](https://www.youtube.com/user/failarmy)! It's so funny!"*

- *"Don't you remember that you haven't finished reading that book about how to raise cattle? It's very important to know stuff like that!"*

- *"You know what? Taoism is actually kinda cool religion, maybe you should study it more? At least listen to all [Drunken Taoist podcast](http://thedrunkentaoist.com/) episodes."*

- *"Log homes are so beautiful. Maybe you should learn how to make them? But first look pictures about them. Then order some books. But of course you should do a thorough research what are the best books so you don't waste your money."*

So yeah, thanks to Instant Gratification Monkey, I'm a guy who knows a little bit about everything but is expert at nothing.

Anybody here succeeded in beating procrastination? How did you managed to do it? Any tips?

I have a nice list of topics that I could write about and publish in Steem. Even when the monetary reward is almost instant is really hard to force myself to do the actual writing.
