Have you stood at an edge of a choice in your life that offers two diverging paths pulling your heart in different ways?
# And taken a decision and stand by it ?

2012 was a turning point of my life, when I had to decide between my career and the kid's health. The kid was only five years old and deserved to enjoy his life to the fullest, but unfortunately the allergic climate of Bangalore would often pulled him back, suffering a lot. He was an adorable kid since birth (he would never cry and at times, we would make him cry to see how he cries) and we enjoyed every moment with him, but things changes after one and half year. He would often catch cold and cough and slowly it became a bigger problem with breathlessness, which was identified as Allergic bronchitis by his Doctor. Bangalore has got a special pollen allergy, that would make it worst. Unfortunately medicines won't work instantly and we had to rush to hospital to give him Nebulization, sometimes even three to four times in a day. Then we even bought a nebulizer machine and I became his first line of doctor, starting the treatment at home, with Doctor's consultation. His doctor loved him so much so that, he would pick my phone any time - he even came to hospital many times in the midnight. Situation worsened, and then injectable steroids was the only choice to control him, after taking which, his hands and body would shiver.

Once his condition became so bad that we had to admit him in the hospital, and after coming home after three days, he again became serious and we had to rush to hospital again. For 24 hours he was unconscious and praying God to save him, was only our hope.

The almighty listened to our prayers and while coming back his doctor advised me to leave the place, to give him a better life. As per him, the climate was not suiting him and he would be alright if we change the place. That was a tough decision for me - job vs child, which one to choose. Leaving the job would not allow me to give them better life, but staying there and punishing him to go through all these ( along with we also taking the toll), was something that no parent would like. We even tried many other alternatives like Ayurveda, Homeopathy etc. I would even take him in the morning and make him run and play in a field (may be I will share a memory in another post), but nothing helped. The doctor even advised us to watch him and find out what kicks the allergy in him and it took almost a year to find out that - artificial color in chocolates or even cream biscuits ( of pretty good brands as well). I remember that incidence when we found out that - he was absolutely alright and we had gone to a mall, coming back he wanted to eat something and I gave him a Britannia cream biscuit. By the time we reached home, his symptoms started and he quickly became serious and we had to rush to hospital. From that day onward, his food became restricted - the kid was so lively that, he would often ask to eat and she had to make sure, something is ready for him - all home made.

In the mean time, our daughter was borne and his doctor only gave her name while bringing out her and handing us over - you can imagine, how much he loved the kid and our family. And he would remind me again and again to leave the place not to face the same problem with our daughter.

The boy was very responsible from childhood, and would listen to anything that I tell - so much attached and trust that he would drink raw ginger juice (full cup) and I would tell him to shout loudly to tolerate the impact and he would roam around and shout. These incidences are some golden memoirs that I would never forget - back then I had a Olympus camera to capture every moment and have so many memories to share. He would be alright and suddenly everything would change - so one fine day I decided to leave the place, irrespective of what happens. The lady provided me great support to face whatever comes our way - kid's health was our highest priority and we decided, we will do something, after coming to may native place. So the day came when I sent my resignation letter quoting our sentiments for the reason and as soon as my boss saw that, he called me to his office. A US guy, who was very straight forward like me, became so emotional that he told me there is no need to leave the job. You can take all the equipment that is necessary and the office will even sponsor the set up of a home office and I can work from home - he had full trust on me. WFH was barely a concept in India then - I could not hold my tears - this meant a lot - I could not have asked anything better from life.

Finally the day came when we left Bangalore - the kid was so happy to come to our native place.

Shifting was very expensive, so we decided to give most of the stuffs to needy people there, that included a lot of his toys, carrying some bare minimum items. After all God was kind to give us what we needed.

At Bangalore airport the security check gave us a tough time, they wanted to see all the items, as the lady kept a small scissor by mistake. In that process she even lost a ear ring - but we were still very happy - to be able to give them a better future.

At Bhubaneswar airport - did not realize in hurry the state of camera lense because of temperature imbalance.

One of my friend helped a lot to get him admitted in the school here and for couple of months, we communicated from our native, before moving near to school as advised by my father.

Initially, there were very few incidences of him getting cold and cough and the doctor from Bangalore would often respond to our calls and advise medicine. Even once he was standing in a queue at Tirupati Teample but still answered my call. Within few months, he became all right, living a normal life, without any medicine - we still have kept the nebulizer machine as a memory.

There was a competition from ICICI Bank at that time with the title - "Leave your passion" and I shared this story which got an winning spot in the country, earning me my first smart phone - Nexus smart phone. There is nothing better a parent can give their child - good health to live their passion. Working from home is a lot difficult than working in office - possibly many people realized that during Covid, but I am determined to give him my best, irrespective of the challenges that I face.

This post is in response to the [Memoir Monday #51](https://peakd.com/memoirmonday/@ericvancewalton/memoir-monday-51-223-32-write-about-a-moment-in-your-life-when-you-stood-at-the-edge-of-a-choicetwo-paths-diverging-each-pulli), the the second-to-last prompt - a golden memoir captured on this chain. Many many thanks to @ericvancewalton for the prompt to bring back these lovely memories.
