Elonk Musk is either an alien, a highly intelligent robot from the future or a special breed of genius humans. That is what most people tend to think after they come to realise just how much he is doing to change the world.

He is a billionaire businessman who kickstarted the popularity of electric cars such that they are finally being adopted by the masses, started a space company to make space travel safer, easier and affordable, created energy solutions so that more people can affordably use solar power.

Not only that, he is helping dig tunnels underground so that humanity can travel in "3D" as he likes to call it. Also, he is overseeing the development of a technology that would ultimately merge our brains with AI so that we do not get wiped off by it in case it goes rouge.

A single person, responsible for all this groundbreaking technology (albeit with the help of multiple teams), has to be something else entirely. While he has achieved a lot in other areas, Neuralink, the neuratech company has been quite silent since its inception. But that is about to change come July 16, as they plan to hold an event to provide updates on its research.

# Brain + Computer = Future
#####

Neuralink was formed in 2016 and Elon Musk has stated on multiple occasions that the company is going to develop solutions for brain-computer interfaces in the beginning with the ultimate goal being a sort of a merger between the human brain and computers.

After there being no announcements of any kind from the company for more than two years, Elon Musk said in a podcast with Joe Rogan last September that they will have an announcement in the coming months that is "at least an order of magnitude better than anything else, probably better than anyone thinks is possible."

It's been almost a year since he said it and it seems the company is finally ready to announce something. Elon's rationale for linking the brain to an AI layer is based on his fear that artificial intelligence will become more intelligent than us humans and it would no longer require us and may even take steps to wipe us off.

As the old saying goes, "if you can't beat them, join them" and that is Elon's solution as well. If we humans merge with AI, we would be equally intelligent and therefore a co-existence of some sort could be achieved.

It will be really interesting what Neuralink has up its sleeves. If they are really going to announce something that most don't even consider possible, it will certainly be the beginning of a revolution in the neurotechnology space and for us all.
