The Starlink project by SpaceX has to be one of the largest and most exciting endeavors that is going on currently. If you were not familiar with it already, well, it's a project that aims to provide true space-based broadband internet through satellites.

Although the concept is not new, the way it is being done and the scale that this is going to achieve is certainly something that has never been tried before. In fact, many people were skeptical about this plan too and were certain that this wasn't going to work.

That seems to be the story of Elon Musk's life - proving skeptics wrong. He did it with electric cars, with space travel and now it seems that he is going to do it with Starlink as well.

The idea of a global constellation of satellites providing high-speed internet to everyone on the planet is something that should have already been done, considering the level of technology that exists today. Well, it's happening now and soon the dream will come true.

Right now, to have internet access, you need to buy the service from your local internet service provider. This typically involves fiber optic cables (in recent times) that are connected to routers or modems in your home or office.

But Starlink will do away with all of that. It will basically create giant wifi in the sky that we can simply tap into (of course after buying the service from SpaceX first). The way users will be able to access the internet this way is quite interesting too.

In a recent tweet, Musk stated that the devices that will be used to connect to the micro-sats will look like UFOs. That's right. The devices will look like thin, flat, round UFO-like plates on a stick. Users would just need to plug the device in the power outlet and point it to the sky to get an internet connection.

How cool is that? First of all the device itself will look something straight out a science fiction movie and second, the idea of getting uninterrupted internet from the skies is simply awesome! I personally can't wait for 2021 when the full launch will take place.
