We are living in the digital age today, with a significant amount of our work as well as personal lives happening online or on computers and smartphones. As such, a lot of our information is stored in the digital realm, some of which can be really, really important. Thanks to the many innovations since the beginning of the computing revolution, it is quite easy to secure your info from would be hackers but as we all know, no system is perfect. Today, we mostly use user ids and passwords to secure our many accounts spanning from social media to our finances. And although it is a tried and tested method, we can easily lose access to our information/accounts if we're not careful. Gone are the days when simple passwords (that one could remember) were enough or using the same passwords and email ids everywhere was okay. We need to be extra vigilant today as the techniques used by hackers get even more sophisticated. # Let's Talk About Passwords ##### Most people in the world use passwords that they can easily remember, for obvious reasons. It can be a real hassle trying to remember your password/s and logging in again and again into a website or a service. But simple passwords are not that secure even if they are something like 8 characters long. Computers have gotten so powerful today that an 8 character long password can easily be guessed even if it has capital letters and numbers in it. Plus, if you use the same password everywhere, you would lose access to all your accounts in a single attack. That's why long complicated passwords (random numbers, alphabets and special symbols) are becoming popular. I too learned to use and manage these kind of passwords only after I joined Steemit. The only problem with them is that they cannot be remembered and might have to be entered each time you log in. The solution? Password managers like 1Password and Lastpass. Basically, these password managers work like your bank vault where you can store all your ids and passwords in a single place, secured by either biometrics or a master password. They even make logging in to various websites as easy as copy and paste. If you've never used one before, and would like to overhaul your security, I would definitely recommend installing one on your phone or desktop. A little hassle today will save you a lot of hassle in case you are hacked!
