“Be happy always”, she said, as he began sounding more relieved to her. It was almost midnight and there was a gentle breeze blowing outside. There was a sense of calm in the air and for the first time in months, he breathed properly. It was as if those words had pulled him right out of the darkness which he had been battling for so long. Too long that he was beginning to think that was just the way of life. Such was her presence in that moment. Even though she was thousands of miles away from him, he could feel her words as if she was standing right in front of him, a serene presence, for sure. “The universe sure works in mysterious ways”, said he, lost in thought about the miracle that was happening right in front of his eyes. “How so?”, she asked. To this he smiled. A genuine smile. Not the fake one he had been giving out for months on end. “It just does”, he said. Their meeting was purely by chance. Even though they had known each other for years, they had never really talked and a simple act by him a couple months ago had brought them together in that moment and they realised how similar they were and how similar their paths had been over the last few years. She had become this amazing person that could be anyone’s inspiration, evident from how blissful she sounded and how selfless she seemed as she listened intently to his troubles of past and the present, taking interest in suggesting solutions. “Was she always like this? I remember she was so different in high school. I guess time changes people.” He thought to himself. Miles apart, she was thinking the same. Neither could believe that they were actually talking, connecting and relating to what the other had gone through over the years. It all felt surreal, and yet it was very real. Could the universe have finally listened to his prayers? The night grew darker and the wind outside was getting stronger. This reminded him of all the sleepless nights he had not too long ago. Of all the prolonged stress and anxiety he went through. The tides were turning for him though. One after the other there were signs that life was finally starting to smile on him and gift him all the things he had ever wished for. It was about time. He was getting tired of having to live a life of depression. She was another one of those signs. The most important one perhaps and something inside him told him that she was there to stay. That they met for a reason. He couldn’t believe his luck and he began to chuckle. “Hey I’ll text you in the morning. Want me to wake you up?” she said, before going to bed. “Sure thing! Goodnight.” said he. “Goodnight. See ya. :) ”, she replied. He put down the phone and just closed his eyes. For the first time in months, he was going to have a peaceful, full night of sleep.
