Anger is a great obstacle to mental peace and contentment. A person becomes angry when insulted. Differences of opinion leading to arguments also cause anger.

Anger is very harmful to the body. It raises the blood pressure and affects the heart. People preach about controlling anger. However, it is very difficult to remain calm when provoked. There are simple means to control anger. Try them the next time you get angry. Released anger will help to relieve burdens.

When tempers fly and words are spoken to provoke, it is better to turn away and go. Staying there to reply or explain your viewpoints will do no good. The other person will not be in a good mood either and will not listen patiently. Remaining silent and walking away will help to avert the argument or fight. This need not extend to hours or days. Ten minutes of silence will help the mind to remain calm and in control. There are people who follow and rain abusive words or even hurt physically. Such people should be reported to the authorities. It is not wise to suffer abuse because the abuser will enjoy the submissiveness and try to hurt more.

Speaking softly and kindly will reduce the flow of negative energy. Love can transform even a beast. However, it should be remembered that a person who has no human qualities like kindness and love does not deserve any respect, pity or consideration.

Practicing meditation helps to control the senses. Anger cannot be controlled in a day. It takes determination and patience to keep from shouting back. Meditation need not mean sitting cross-legged for hours when you don’t have the time. Observing nature and having lonely walks in the woods is also a form of silent contemplation. This helps to calm the mind and remove the negative impulses that arise. The serene person will not get upset by negative feedback because the ego will have been subdued.

In the case of work environments, it is better to keep away from a person who tries to make life a hell. Loving a person even when being hated, is a noble deed and will be rewarded sooner or later.
