# Hail to the Hive! In 1990 I had just been discharged from the Air Force and returned to the UK. I got a job back at the scummy filthy down and dirty rock/ alternative nightclub called Sector 5 that I had worked at ( under age) as a young 16 year old a few years earlier. Ahhhh I could breathe and relax and let loose. I think I had signed up in the military far too young at 17 and for many reasons it just wasn’t for me at that juncture in my life. To say I was happy to be out was an understatement. I think I possibly over indulged upon my release from service and just embraced freedoms and excess. Travel, music festivals, booze, more travel, more music and more booze and ting and ting. The music I listened to that year still walks with me and triggers vivid memories and emotions. Here’s a taster from my 1990 play list for #threetunetuesday created by @ablaze https://youtu.be/y6Qx7fmUegE Originally a tune by the MC 5’s this version by Henry Rollins and one of my all time favorite bands ‘Bad Brains’ is a choice tune full af agressive energy and vibes. Moshing round the dancefloor to this when dancing was akin to UFC fighting I was as happy as can be. I came across this tune on a friends mix tape that I hastily copied and played to death and was for a long time utterly oblivious to the fact that it was on the Soundtrack to a movie called ‘Pump up the Volume’ with Christian slater. I can’t recall much of the movie but this tune forever gets my juices flowing. https://youtu.be/cMOAXm94VWo Fugazi are one of those bands I am both astounded that they never hit it bigger and kinda thankful in a way they never did for selfish reasons as they are like my private art collection shared with only the few that know. This tune was introduced by a dear old friend no longer with us, taken away brutally, and I always think of her when listening to this. Bittersweet as they say. https://youtu.be/xUgI2h35Pcc Now this is kinda why I was glad Fugazi never exploded. This tune by Nirvana from what is,for me, their best album ‘Bleach’ was out at exactly the same time and often you’d find this album and the Fugazi one in the same collection in many a house ( or tiny bedsit as it happens). Raw, angry, thought provoking and honest. Defo turn it upmto 11 and have a jump around the room. Break shit too why not! I did 😂
