The 18 Islands are in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, a little north of Scotland and half way to Iceland. Very reminiscent to its neighbours, it is known for northern lights, windswept nature, exceptional hiking and culture. There is no denying the beauty of the Faroe Islands, but they are secluded and it can be difficult to find information on visiting. Despite this, it is relatively easy to fly to the Faroes with direct flights from my hometown. On top of that, one of my friends, Bina, is Faroese!

This photo was taken in Bina’s hometown of Viðareiði, the northernmost settlement in the country. It is sandwiched between two mountains and is located six islands away from Torshavn. With a population of just 346 people, it is one of the most remote places in Europe.
