Hello to all gardeners and farmers here on hive most especially here @hivegarden community. I'm back to share with you a glimpse on how we plant onion Leeks. Actually the steps is so simple that even kids can follow.

Last time, I shared here on how we harvest onion leeks, and now I’ll show you how we plant them. Since we’ve already finished harvesting out our onion leeks, we now have empty space where we can plant onion leeks again. We don’t have any other crops to grow for now, so we’ll be replanting the leftover onion leeks instead.

These leftover leeks are the one that have slightly damaged leaves and can’t be sold in the market, so instead of letting them go on waste, we’ll plant them again. With proper care or maintenance, they’ll grow new with healthy green leaves. This is one of the best characteristics of onion leeks, if the price is low there is a way so that it will not be wasted. Unlike the other crops, once harvested we cannot replant it, or there is no other way but to sell it in the market even the price is not acceptable.

This is how we do it here for us to not wait for too long. If we were to start from seeds, it would take months before we could transplant them. But since we already have plenty of leftover onion leeks that can be replanted, we simply trim and clean them, then plant the lower part. We call this process “putol,” which means “cut,” because we cut the leaves before planting them.

But before planting, we need to toil or cultivate the soil and make beds for us to have organized plants. And easily to take care and weed them. The onion leeks easily to grow if the soil is cultivated and have proper distance from each other. So in one lane row there is 5 onion leeks. If they grow it is nice to see and harvest them because it was organized.

Leeks are actually easy to take care of. After planting, we apply fertilizer in between each onion leeks. We usually use chicken manure, which works really well. After several days of applications, new leaves will start to grow, and in about two months, or around 70 days, they’ll be ready for harvest.

So this is how we plant onion leeks here, I hope you can try it at home, even if just for your consumption. By the way, the planting method I share with you all is for a wide area, because we are selling them wholesale on the vegetable market.
