There are enough really good writers that publishing will survive, but like many other industries, they will have to adjust their business model.  The great thing about self-publishing is that anyone can write and publish a book.  The bad thing about it is that anyone can write and publish a book.  :)  There's a lot of bad self-published books out there, so I think the traditional publishers will always have a place.
