The Weekday Playlists are a list of 10 songs that I listened to throughout my day. I list the songs, then go into a little bit about the songs listed. I’ll take a look at the artists, the emotional connection to the songs, or simply how it made me feel from that perspective. I do not own any of the songs listed. The songs listed are available on Spotify. Alli and I - Imaginary Hearts Maddie and Tae - No Place Like You The High Kings - The Parting Glass Musical Blades - Johnny Home Daughtry - Maybe We’re Already Gone Cat Stevens - Peace Train SafetySuit - Never Stop The Highwaymen - Highwaymen Dolly Parton - 9 to 5 Eddie Izzard - For the benefit of Mr Kite Alli and I Imaginary Hearts - Album - Imaginary Hearts (2015) - Artist - Andrew Danger Standly Andrew Danger Standly hails from Nebraska. I have had the pleasure to meet Andrew from time to time. He’s a very down to earth kind of guy. Alli and I’s music has a bit of country, and smooth acoustic melodies. Maddie and Tae - No Place Like You - Album - Start Here (2015) - Artist Madisson Marlow and Taylor Dye. Maddie and Tae are from Tennessee. I discovered these two through Spotify’s Discover Weekly section. Really enjoyed their country style. No Place Like You kind of speaks to the romantic heart. The High Kings - Parting Glass - Album - The High Kings (2008) - Artists Finbarr Clancy, Brian Dunphy, Darren holden, and George Murphy. This traditional scottish song is redone by the High Kings. They kept the traditional feel of the melody. The song itself is a song to celebrate the end of gathering of friends. There’s a ton of history behind this song. Some famous renditions have been heard on walking dead, Assassins Creed, and Pierce Brosnan has even performed. The High Kings bring the traditional scottish feel to it. Their vocal acoustics bring out the melodies quite well. Musical Blades - Johnny Home - Album - Pieces of Eight (and Treasures of Old) (2014) - Artists Captain Patch (Albert Hall), Saxton (Derrin Skorupan), Pappy McBeard (Mike Collier), Saucy Jack Tar (Michael Doss), Kidd Morgan (Kris Lana), Gunpowder Red (Ryan Irwin) Musical Blades are a fantastic group. Their music mixes comedy, storytelling, and a pirate flare. I ran into the Musical Blades at the Kansas City Renaissance Festival many years ago. The group is very charismatic in person. They incorporate the audience reactions into their shows quite well. This song hits right in the heart. With it’s somber melodies and heart felt storytelling it’s definitely one of my favorites. Daughtry - Maybe We’re Already Gone - Album - Break the Spell (2011) - Artist Chris Daughtry. The rock sounds that brought Chris Daughtry to where he is makes this song very memorable. The song speaks to me as a song about loss. Two people who care for each other are giving it a shot, knowing full well it’s over. Many of Daughtry’s songs hit close to home at different times of my life. Cat Stevens - Peace Train - Album - Teaser and the Firecat (1971) - Artist Cat Stevens I discovered this song a long time ago. When I heard it on the film Jobs with Ashton Kutcher, It was very well placed. It’s a song that speaks uplifting and empowering. The beat and melody of it makes it a fun song to walk to, or jam out in the car. SafetySuit - Never Stop - Album These Times (2012) - Artists - Doug Brown, Jeremy Henshaw, Tate Cunningham, Dave Garofalo This is another song that hits super close to home. I discovered this song the year i went through a very difficult time with a failing relationship. It was definitely something that gave me a lot of joy and hope. Over time it has continued to be that song of hope for me. The Highwaymen - Highwaymen - Album - Highwayman (1985) - Artist Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson This song resonates with my memories. I remember listening to this on road trips with my dad. The song tells a great story of many folks at different ages. The Highwaymen group was made out of several superstars of country. I knew of most of these folks before my dad introduced me to the Highwaymen albums. Dolly Parton - 9 to 5 - Album 9 to 5 and Odd Jobs (1980) - Artist - Dolly Parton. This one is an oldie but a good one. I love how Dolly Parton’s voice resonates through this. It’s hard to not pick out her voice among the many artists i listen to. This is one of my favorite songs to listen to while at work. It’s got a beat that you can’t help tap your toes to. The song was put on the Deadpool 2 album, because well Deadpool. Eddie Izzard - For the benefit of Mr Kite - Album - Across the Universe (2007) - Artist - Eddie Izzard Comedian Eddie Izzard appears in Across The Universe to show off this fantastic scene. I enjoy the comedic narration mixed in with the music. There’s a nice mix of circus instrumentals telling an interesting story. What do you think? The playlist is fun, has a good mix of new and older artists.
